The strange unexplained disappearance of Lars Mittank

28-year-old German tourist Lars Mittank was last seen running through Varna Airport in Bulgaria, on 8th July, 2014. Security CCTV shows him exiting the airport, pausing momentarily outside of it, as though deciding what to do, before then speeding off on foot, away from the airport.

He’d been inside the airport in a Doctor’s office, when he suddenly, inexplicably and with no prior warning, got up from his chair and rushed from the doctor’s consultation room, leaving behind his backpack and all other personal belongings. He ran through the airport corridor and lobby, before fleeing once outside, running to the left of the airport, climbing a fence and disappearing into a small wooded area. After that, it is as though he simply vanished off the face of the earth.

What was really happening to him in the airport, to make him urgently flee?
Was he being forced to do something against his will, under threat to his family?
Did he have no choice but to follow their orders?
