#ulog No. 2: After a Long Journey, My Sister is Finally Going to Graduate!
Yesterday, I posted my very first ulog:
#ulog No. 1: Be Thankful Everyday.
There’s a saying that when you have that positive vibe, you will attract more of it! And certainly, the universe did not fail me today!
Earlier this afternoon, my sister told me the good news - she passed the comprehensive exam for her course. In case some people do not know yet, (for some courses) passing this exam is a prerequisite to graduate.
Jaya
My sister, Jaya, is a BS Customs Administration student. BSCA, like most business courses, has a four-year curriculum. This school year is my sister’s fifth already. She was a year late not because she had failing grades, but because she had to work for a year since we were financially challenged.
Last year, my other sister, Niña, decided to give way to Jaya and work to help support the family. Through our collective efforts, we were able to send Jaya to school again. Since she was very passionate about her studies, it was all worth it. For her last year in school, she had to finish her on-the-job training and pass the comprehensive exam.
Just last weekend, her batch took the dreaded exam. It was a two-day long test, patterned on the actual Custom’s Broker Licensure Exam, so it was very hard and exhausting. Jaya was extra tired since she was also campaigning for the elections as an SK Councillor. I didn’t know how she managed, but from her smiling face, I knew she would handle everything well.
Monday was election day and also the release of the comprehensive exam results. I remember seeing her walking towards my room, crying. The exam results came out first - she FAILED. She failed just one subject and passed the rest. But since it was patterned on the board exam, it was still considered as failed. And her failing score? 72% and the passing rate was 75%. Three percent short! I think I would’ve cried too, if that was me.
only 19 out of 100+ examinees passed the exam.
Good thing the school allows a one time retake. But it was scheduled the NEXT DAY already, which gives them less than a day to review.
Later that day, election results came out, SHE WON! Thank God!
And today, the results of the retake came out. Like what I’ve written in the title, my sister is going to graduate! Yay! Congratulations on the double win dear sissy!
Before I end this Ulog, I want to share 2 things that I learned from my sister’s journey:
- You may fail (for now) with something , but look around and you’ll see that there are also other things that you’ve already won.
- Not everyone is lucky enough to succeed the first time, but don’t be afraid to try again! Second, third, fourth times more, you’ll only fail when you stop trying!
