Godot slicing (finally figuresdit) lores(1080p)30fps
For ease and b/c we overdid it again, mentally feels like not demented yet but physically like shouldnt have stretched it this far. A whole cycle of google b/c we read 4gb is the max video output size in godot (which means going by the former one about 20 seconeds and the anim bare timeline for arc 1 is already 850 seconds)
so out the door i went (virtually) googling that ass and i dare say (like UE , unigine and unity for what i remember) the godocs are like scenedocs , like raistlin papers on supreme multiplex dycp fullscreen scrollers : for fucker who already noez ...
to the point where play_section( ... lalala) was the thing play_section_with_markers(lalala..) probably could serve too but nothing would work. Only the "play on start" button in the vis-ed. regardless of what was in the script.
Turns out it was the wrong script, maybe an artefact, but no errors, right ?
this no-coding is more confusing than what im used to. If this were the original AGK version then saving the rendered screenbuffer to an uncompressed RGBA-file per frame would be a breeze , timeconsuming but easy, on the ST after a few sessions we already have a "spritecutter" that slices out chunks from a neochrome pic and saves it to disk (without palette included in that case) and i bet i could do it on a c64, it would be hella slow and very limited nr of fulsscreen frames but i could totally do it
in ASM as well ...
HERE (phew ...) well in essence, there was much googling the same stuff and in the end finding out we were on the wrong script since try one. But no errors, so either that doesnt run, or it gets negated by the other one. What we want is the script attached to the scene itself apparently, NOT the one attached to the animationplayer.
A MUST since 4gb wont cut it in this case and so if we cant then all the rest would be futile effort , so now this is play_section("main",460,540) or something with the rest left out , its one of those annoying IDEs where you have to tab forced like python but visual like that microshti so it tells you how many options you have and what not ... all very nice i guess if you're used to that
Now we figuresd that out , prey we can move back to finishing the bare timeline for arc1 and then start refining and adding all the "insert sequence here" bits , if need be we can render 1 seconds at a time, full quality fog, ambient, everything included, knitting video together isnt the hardest thing.
And the the models ofcourse, i suppose this counts as "prototype" in bearded youtube and bald CEO-speak so lacking a small billion and access to an amazon datacenter, a chinese renderfarm and 5 years of FROM software in the basement (well yea, ... if i HAD TO PICK ONE ... sure ,im quite sure id abduct them and lock them in the basement for five years , i mean ... dark souls, elden ring ... i mean euhm , well yea ... the SS JoG-01 catstar ship actually i think works out fine starting from a low-poly cat model, looking a bit like a starwars walker, the warpgates sure look better in rendered form but id need some kind of projection on the inside of a hollow cylinder or torus or else boolean ops with oval stuff .. we'll see about all that
Im sure in a few years it will start to look like "something"

o a yea, NORMAL MAPS FTW, give the guy who came up with that a statue the size of colossus ... all those "castle walls" the fortress walls are flat cubes with an albedo sandstone and normal maps make it look like actual stones, ALTHOUGH
a small kicker in the nads : to the experienced eye this triplanar mapping (which Unity didnt have when we tried it you (years ago)) looks a bit wonkey up close if you go past corners, the grooves dont add up or follow, but the normals vs. lighting certainly work wonders (should probably help a lot with performance if this was a game too but if it were a game it could already totally not run on the pc we have here)

I wanna do warpgate like i remember B5 here , even if the ship is only a prototype as well, switching from planes to hollow tubes probably works best, now here its flipped to the inside in godot itself but i think a custom mesh in blender with different material surfaces i can later fill in in godot is the way to go :
one "frame" for the energy field , the green shader which charges then the wormhole that expands from nearly invisible singularity pingpongball size to the tunnel big enough to let the cruiser out (well its more like a command ship but lets not get into the lore of my personal verse yet here) which like SHOOTS OUT of hyperspace (the way i remember b5) and then slowly moves to the pad, where i'll need energy suspension fields as the thing is not made to land on the surface (as any advanced culture will tell you : battleships and cruiser class or larger never touch the surface, they're built in space and stay in space, its kinda stupid to do otherwise) .. ah i thought ppl who write stories think a lot further than that but dont let me be an example, im not your teacher
... gimme FROM soft and ill be your director sure .. But only after i get that house in asia for the cat (and us)
so the green energy field charges up enough to create a wormhole and the ship shoots in from hyperspace and once its out slowly drifts to the landing pad , held by energy suspension fields , thats the general idea here, far from finished.
The "stairway to the catstar" is more like an asteroid or several, an asteroid with debris with an outpost and mfg plant to the side, a spaceport with a pad so its zero to low-G anyway any gravity inside the forcefield (which you cant see from these angles, only from the outside) would be artificial
even SO , i think the command ship needs suspension fields to say level, if not just for safety reasons

yea, in arc1 the felian coming out of the tent sees this briefly as he scales the wall from the ladders, so it has to be out of hyperspace before he turns his head, then moves on to the controller terminal (after which he moves to the center above the gate and elevator where there will be the unloading scene in the distance but that should be more visible in arc2 : the ship / commander )
