Aims To Detect The Presence Of Disease Or Match Organ Tissue Before Performing An Organ Transplant
A biopsy is a diagnostic procedure performed by taking a small sample of body tissue or cells for examination and analysis in a laboratory using a microscope. The tissue examination aims to detect the presence of disease or match organ tissue before performing an organ transplant. The risks that an incorrect biopsy can carry are infection and bleeding. There is a risk of bleeding from tissue removal or tingling after the biopsy, but side effects of the biopsy are very rare. In general, the purpose of a biopsy is to find out whether a person has cancer or not. This type of biopsy is usually done when your doctor suspects a blood cancer, such as leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, or cancer that originates in or goes to the bone marrow. After a biopsy, the tumor tissue is sent to a pathologist and examined, the results take 4-7 days in the form of an Anatomical Pathology examination. The results of this Anatomical Pathology examination are the golden standard or a definite diagnosis of whether a lump is a benign or malignant (cancerous) tumor.
