The Illusion of Free Will

alt
At any moment in time, the decisions we make are based on who we are, what we have to work with intellectually, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and the combination of all our life experiences.

We could make no other choice, it's who we are at that moment.

If there's any truth to that, we better start being a whole lot kinder to one another because we're all mentally impaired to a lessor or greater degree. We push ourselves towards being kind and we alter our future for the better.

Right to Self-Determination

Unless you've been in a coma for the last 20+ years or you've never watched the news, you know what a circus the government is. It's divided against itself to first approximation. The left right paradigm only agrees on one thing, war. Then there's the mainstream news to keep us informed of what the government is doing. One news channel says one thing and a different news channel says the opposite. Somebody's lying. Once you dig a little deeper, you begin to see the extent to which we're being lied to. As Judge Andrew Napolitano stated: " The Government lies to us daily on matters great and small."

Humanity tries to find its way to a more civilized existence but the path is being blocked by those who view us as a renewable natural resource to be controlled, used to their benefit, and then discarded. Make no mistake, we're in a war for control of our own minds.
alt

We've been alienated from our true selves and whatever that is, it's better without the negative influence.

In my opinion, this is what JFK was referring to in this part of his Secret Society Speech.... whether he realized it or not and this is what stands in the way of humanity's further progress.

These family dynasties and others control our government and most governments around the world. To eliminate their unwanted interference in our lives, a good first step would be to remove their mechanism of control, the government itself. And in this regard, the best solution I've seen yet is @adamkokesh

Is it your view that the mechanism of control referenced here can be removed by itself? I just wonder how a violence-based mechanism, owned by these evil dynasties, will allow itself to be ended by itself. This seems totally counterintuitive to me, if the state and its unfair electoral violence-based mechanisms are the problem. Mafias and crime syndicates do not end themselves by their own devices. When we are thirsty and have a dry throat, we don’t drink sand. That would be more of the problem. We drink water.

"Is it your view that the mechanism of control referenced here can be removed by itself?"
No

"I just wonder how a violence-based mechanism, owned by these evil dynasties, will allow itself to be ended by itself."
No one believes that and you're the only one I've heard ask that question.

"This seems totally counterintuitive to me, if the state and its unfair electoral violence-based mechanisms are the problem."
Adam's campaign is a referendum for freedom and it's not the political process of his running for President that's going to fix anything. It's the people the process wakes up. That's where the power is. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It's about waking people up to question authority and demand justice.

"Mafias and crime syndicates do not end themselves by their own devices. "
Thank you, Captain Obvious

"When we are thirsty and have a dry throat, we don’t drink sand. That would be more of the problem. We drink water."
You're not allowed water.. unless you demand it

Graham, you asked me not to respond to you after the last conversation where you refused to acknowledge Adam's answer to your question. You said I was toxic..

Well, water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. Our solidarity is the elite's achilles heel, we be many and they be few, united we stand.

Our only path to a better future for our children lies in educating the masses to the truth of their situation because only a united front making a demand has a chance against such a pervasive evil. Tyranny's getting worse, not better and I'm for all ideas and actions to turn this tide.

We, each and everyone of us, need to ask ourselves if our actions and interactions are bringing us closer to civilization and a state of freedom or further away.

It was an honest commentary. I am not sure why such a combative tone was necessary. It’s strange to me that some of the most vocal proponents of “peace” and “love” are unable to have an honest dialogue, open to entertaining opposing viewpoints and weighing them without becoming emotional. That last picture pretty well sums up the creepiness inherent in the arguments and personas of these types of individuals, so thank you, at least, for doing that justice. I was just stating things as I see them. I don’t think junior high school inanity such as “captain obvious” is really befitting, but then again, what do I know.

Honest commentary?
When a person refuses to acknowledge that an answer has been given to their chosen question because it completely refutes their whole point, you know that truth is not their goal. I won't try to guess what is but it's not good.

How am I supposed to trust your commentary after you pulled that bit of nonsense?

Then you bash the meme? wow.. How revealing is that. Did you not understand it's about putting your ego aside and do what's right to protect our children? We're one enlightened generation away from making this a better world. And somehow that's creepy.

I'm sorry, I can't relate..

The answer that “majority consensus” is “allowing the market to act” is incorrect.
Thanks for reading my comment, though. I appreciate it.

can we just stop with the extra comments now... I can if you can

How is majority consensus not free market? It sounds like the very definition of free market.

from Investopedia:

What is a 'Free Market'

The free market is an economic system based on supply and demand with little or no government control. It is a summary description of all voluntary exchanges that take place in a given economic environment. Free markets are characterized by a spontaneous and decentralized order of arrangements through which individuals make economic decisions. Based on its political and legal rules, a country’s free market economy may range between very large or entirely black market.

The free, zero-state intervention, Laissez-Faire, Voluntaryist market isn’t determined via votes, but price pressure and other organic factors. Yes, we can stop now. To suggest that “majority consensus” can calculate price and measure supply and demand, let alone determining property ownership is just absurd.

The first paragraph of your link proves your argument invalid. Votes/majority consensus do not grant ownership:

The free market is an economic system based on supply and demand with little or no government control.

That’s it. I truly do not understand what you are not seeing here.

In a free market, majority consensus would determine if a product would be sold. If the product is bad, word will get around and no one will buy it.

In that sense and no government or voting is necessary.

Great post. I was a big fan of the book on Free Will by Sam Harris where in my mind he presented an unbreakable case for why free will is an illusion. Or at least I could not help but form that opinion ;)

(A lecture by him that I liked where he presents his most compelling arguments for those too lazy to buy and read the book.)

Anyways, just wanted to say I finally got to add you to the new whitelist we've built for @steempress-io since we got the delegation.

Steem on.

Amazing! I'm only at the 11 min mark and Sam Harris is repeating the theory I came up with in the 60s and have not doubted since. If it's true, we need to be a whole lot kinder to each other.

Steempress, I stopped using but if it's been improved I'll give it another try. I certainly need something to make it easier to post. The formatting was not transferring correctly before.

It would be a huge help, honestly.

If you say free will is an illusion, you basically say you do not have any choice in life. Yet, some people seems to handle life better then others as they decide they want to achieve more (success, happiness, impact). Are they 'destined' to achieve more? Or is the decision and the personal commitment to actually do it? It is also a possibility that your conscious mind is the captain of you unconscious ship. If you go with that theory, you believe will-power is very real in choosing direction where to go. It might be based on everything in the past, but you could still decide if you go left or right on the roadblock, as your current persona is based on the past, but you future persona is still able to be shaped; through decisions. Thoughts?

I don't know, it's a theory I've had since high school in the '60s. There is so much we don't know or I should say that I don't know. Such as:
the power of attraction - changing reality with your mind-

"What the bleep to I know"

the pineal gland
esoteric knowledge of all kinds
how about our origins.. we don't even know that

Even if the headline is true, our choice is to push the envelope in the right direction. If you try to be kinder for instance, you're going to affect future generations.

There is indeed a lot we yet do not get our heads around. I believe there is always cause and effect. Like in your example, if you decide to be kinder, you will show future generations how that works. If you decide to be tough on them, they most likely be tough to their children (if they do not decide for another option). Always learning.. :)

I often see free will as an individual construct. You get as much or as little as you build for yourself.

I can see that. It goes along with pushing the envelope so to speak.

good story .

Since we can choose to make any decision by flipping a coin or rolling a die, or any other random process, Will is not determined.
As for the rest... government is incompetent at everything it sets it's hand to. It is ALSO incompetent at controlling people.

Good points to throw in the mix. ty
Most things I hold on loosely to any kind of absolute conclusion because of the extent to which we're being lied to.
