In 1988 (almost 30years ago), boxer Mike Tyson engaged Donald Trump to be his "Personal Financial Adviser." Which Donald Trump? Well, President of the United States, Donald Trump. Trump who was a successful businessman then was on the Tyson payroll and life was good.
Today, Tyson is broke by reason of his excessive and irresponsible spending and Trump is the most powerful man in the world by reason of his position as the President of the United States.

In 1988, Trump was said to have paid $11miilion to organize the Tyson- Spinks fight which sold out in record time. Trump was said to have earned an upward of $15milion through his Trump Plaza casino.
Their business arrangement didn't last long as there were allegations that Trump had an affair with Tyson's wife, Robin Givens and also Tyson'r constant legal battles that ranged from assault to rape which eventually saw him going to prison in 1992.

Iron Mike Tyson as he was popularly referred to, was known for his extravagant lifestyle which always graced the covers of the major celebrity magazines. As you can see, things change and when they change, the ripple effect goes long distances.
My question now is, "if Trump was a good financial manager, would Tyson had gone broke? Or was it all Tyson's fault because he didn't listen to his financial manager?"

Do the best you can to stay ahead of the curve and avoid the lifestyle of unrewarding extravagances. Investing in yourself is the first step towards getting into a life of greatness. The smart ones will always be smart and the foolish ones will be what they are, "not smart". There is no amount of money that can make you smart. You have to keep making smart choices in every step of the way. The guy who was your assistant yesterday may not remain your assistant tomorrow.
Do not make the mistake of thinking everything is permanent, nothing is. Change is one sure constant aspect of life and it is only the prepared that can take it when it presents itself. The rich and wealthy are not magical, they just know how well to position themselves for the coming future because they think like the rich. Money doesn't always guarantee wealth.

Make the world a better place for someone today!

Wow!. This is new to me. How life turns. So much lessons to pick from this as usual. The way you reason and break your words down with depth is always admirable sir.

A man who empties him pocket into his head is a wise man. He made tons of money but still went broke due to careless living. It is sad and that is the reality of life. Some get second chances and some don't and if you don't make good use of what life offers, then playing catch up would be a reality. I am sure he would do it differently if he has another chance; only if he learned from this.

i don't hate donald, let's just say i dislike him but i will try to be logical. every manager should know the benefits of being one and should also understand the essence of staying prosperous, you are to pass this on to the talent you manage and help them grow. your advice makes a huge impact on them, that's why they pay you. they growth shows whether you are as good or you are con as ass. i would leave thoughts in your mind.
even with the twist in life, there is always an explanation to most things that happen .

Apparently, Trump gave Mike the best advice but he bluntly didn't heed to it or Trump misled him with wrong advice is a point to ponder on as @ejemai rightly asked
I can't really say which happened at the time
I guess Mike's lifestyle wasn't easy to be cautioned
He's got a hot head
Nothwithstanding, a huge lesson for us

yea. huge lesson my friend. life isn't straightforward anymore. live with love

This is really amazing, in America anyone can be your adviser and be closer to you when it comes to deal, i know pretty well that the allegations wouldn't be true.

Hmmmm, I feel blessed
Moral lesson: invest in yourself, read great books, buy them........just invest in yourself attitude.

I totally agree with everything you have said here and the Trump and Tyson story is a good analogy too. Life is like a supply and demand graph. One minute it's up there, the next minute it's crashed. Making the right choices will definitely help keep you at the top.

Life turns around.
Moral lesson: Learn to control your spendings

This life is very unpredictable: that's why nobody should be looked down on. Imagine the most powerful man on Earth presently once working for currently broke Tyson. Anyway I don't think Tyson went broke because Trump was a bad financial manager or adviser. Maybe Tyson didn't listen to him because he thought the money will always be there since he was the reigning man in the boxing world then. Lack of foresight of the future killed Tyson. He learnt his lesson the very hard way!

Wow! This is really something

This is quite a story. One that makes you sit and think.
