Chile on a budget pt.1

Hey guys! For the past 3 years I've been trying to know a new place every year, so in 2016 me and my boyfriend took 2 trips, and one of those was to Chile.
Since we are Brazilians we'd never seen snow, so we wanted to go during winter, buuut, since winter in Chile is during school holidays, the tickets were over the roof, so we had to change our plans and book tickets to go in early September, which would be the end of winter, but there would still be snow around the ski stations.
So tip number 1 is: If you don't want to see snow, go during the spring or summer, it'll be way cheaper. Or at least try to avoid the holidays.

Tip number 2: Stay in a hostel!
Seriously, staying in hostels is one of the coolest travel experiences I've done, they usually have a pool table, or sarts, there's a bar with people from all over the world a few meters from your bedroom and most of the time food and the drinks are cheap. By the way, we recommend the Hostal Providencia, only a few meters aways from Providencia subway station and a 5 minutes walk from Bela Vista, the area with the best nightlife in Santiago. If you go there, try going to a karaoke bar, I swear that it's one of the funniest experiences eveeer after a few "Terremotos", a Chiliean drink that means earthquake, that's because you feel everything spinning and shaking after two of these, and that brings us to...

Tip number 3: Try local drinks
"Terremoto", "Pisco Sour" Pipeño Wine and.... Wine, these are the top 4 cheapest drinks in Chile, I'm positively sure that you can find some wines that are actually cheaper than water, so go ahead and experience the worst headache ever after having a Terremoto, 2 Piscos and one or two beers. Oh, and buy Delirium beer there, for some reason, it's just like, super cheap, at least compared to Brazil...

Tip number 4 : Buy a subway/bus card!
Uber is not that cheap in Chile, so I totally recommend riding the subway. It's good, it's safe, it's fast and easy to understand. You can go basically anywhere if you learn how Saantiago's subway works, you can even make to some wineries around the city like Cousiño Macul, that by the way, has a great tour and for a very affordable price.

Tip number 5: Don't buy a package tour to Viña del Mar and Valparaíso
If you want to go to Viña Del Mar and Valparaíso, save yourself many pesos and instead of buying a tour package, follow these steps: Take the red line until Pajarito's Station, the metro station is also a bus station and you can buy tickets to Viña del Mar there for $3.000 pesos, something like, $2 dollars, I guess. The busses leave at every 15 minutes and the ride takes around 1:30h. The busses provide free WIFI and they usually screen a movies during the trip, but the landscapes on the way are great and the road crosses many famous wineries plantations, so if the WIFI isn't working very well it won't be a problem to distract yourself looking out the window.
