Steempunk Net Character - "Trial by Comics" Pencil entry
Hey guys, this is my entry into @kommienezuspadt's "Trial by Comics" contest. The comic book style is very new to me, but I think it is one I will enjoy doing in the future once I become more familiar with it. @Jedau and I have started collaborating on a comic book that takes place in the @steempunknet world and we are really looking forward to getting the first pages out in due time - more to come on that in the future!
So this is a character idea for the upcoming Steempunk Net comic. However, last night, I decided that I might actually switch her from having wings that allow her to fly to a steempunk jetpack - undecided but I'm leaning a little bit toward the jetpack.
Unfortunately, I was completely lost in this one and forgot to take process shots :( I didn't fill in the background too much because my initial thought was to render it in photoshop and not take the time to draw it manually, plus I'm imagining this being a night so most of the background will be black and maybe some lights thrown into the buildings.

I’m a fan of the wings. I think they’re a great visual over a jet pack. I could see the mechanics of them pushed a bit further, bigger interlocking gears, etc.
Yeah the more I have thought about it the more I like the wings as well - although I still love the idea of a steampunk jetpack (steampack?) and will probably incorporate it at some point :)

I kind of like the wings, maybe a steempunk jetpack would take up a bit less room, unless they're like the Men in Black jetpacks XD But then folding down the wings could look so cool! Whatever works for the thing you're trying to do anyway :D

Haha! Man, those jetpacks.. I really feel like they suit the time, and in a way proves more functional than jetpacks that never really, well... took off haha!

What a fine specimen! It's so good that I might have to think of a good arc for this femme fatale! Perhaps a combination of the jetpack and wings. The jetpack could be used as the propeller, while the wings would be used to steer. I really like the visual that the mechanical wings provide, with all the gears and the rustic material, that's why I feel it really completes the piece. The spikes on top really makes it look menacing!
