Pulmonaria : an excellent honey plant

in #tree6 days ago

Lungwort is a lovely plant with a "sweet" name. It is a great honey plant, so it fits well in many gardens.

Lungwort is a common perennial, also called Pulmonaria vulgaris. People often call it Lungwort. Its root system spreads quickly, allowing it to cover a large area. The plant's stem stands straight up and has short hairs. Lungwort grows to about 65-70 centimeters tall.

The leaves can be round or long and look very pretty. Some have silver spots or stripes. Like the stems, the leaves may have soft hairs. They fully grow after the plant starts to flower.

The flower buds come in different colors, like light pink or dark purple. The colors can change as the season goes on. Lungwort usually blooms from April to May. Its scent attracts bees. After flowering, a small pod with seeds appears. The plant uses these seeds to reproduce naturally.

There are many types of lungwort available now. Some popular types include:

Shaft-shaped: This type is unusual and rare. Its leaves change from dark green to silver. It blooms in early spring with big, purple-red buds. Long-leaved: This lungwort is short, only 20-30 centimeters tall. Its large leaves have silver spots. The flowers start pink and turn blue.

Red: These flowers often grow near the sea. They spread fast and create a pretty carpet. They bloom from late spring to mid-summer. The buds are bright red.

Medicinal: This type grows in Russia and Western Europe. It is a small and tidy plant. Its leaves are heart-shaped and dark green. The buds are reddish-purple and become lighter over time.
