Travel Tip: Loket Castle, one of the most beautiful Gothic castles in the Czech Republic

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I will introduce you to yet another impressive medieval castle, the famous castle of Loket.

Located in the Karlovy Vary Region, approximately 12 km (7 mi) outside the popular spa town of the same name (Karlovy Vary), the Loket Castle is a majestic medieval castle found on a massive rock above the Ohre River.
The first official mention of the castles dates back to 1234 but some historians suggest the castle might have already existed as early as in the second half of the 9th century. The unique inaccessible location of Loket earned it a nickname "the impregnable castle" and there was a legend saying that whoever manage to conquer the Loket Castle will be able to take over the whole country.

Administrated by the Loket Castle Foundation since 1993, the castle now serves as a museum and a popular national monument. It also hosts an annual classic music and opera festival. Loket is easily reachable by car, bus, train and even boat as the River Ohre, an important Czech waterway, flows around it.

Loket castel has a scenic beauty with lash green mountains and river ohre on it's surroundings. The castle has an old architecture and very rich history. From it's condition it doesn't seem to be 700 years old. Great work by Loket Castle Foundation to make this beautiful castle museum. Thanks for sharing another nice place @czechglobalhosts
The Czech Government together with local authorities take a pretty good care of our heritage and architectural monuments. My hands up to them for that. You cannot say this about all the countries out there....

@czechglobalhosts, Such a amazing place you introduced this time via travel tip. After given details of you, I feel castle of Loket' wanna wonder of the world. Why am I told that? It's located very near Ohre rive and It's impregnable castle. Awesome landscaping area there. How much charge to visit there Thomas? Prague castle of loket need to visit everybody who want to and stay peoples. I prefer to see inside images. I'll keep hope someday you'll proceed my request.

Loket Castle seems a place of ancient culture, unique in it's architect and style. Decision taken by the Castle Foundation back in 1993 was a good step for the tourists point of view.
No doubt Castle is matchless in it's beauty but that Ohre River is actually enhancing the beauty of this Castle ;)
Oh, it sure is! What a picturesque location is Ohre River making together with Loket Castle.
Gorgeous place... I regret that I cancel my trip to Czech in 2014 when I was already in Hungary...
Hope I can visit this beautiful place sometime in the future...

Nice to see you with your travel tip again! As always you have chosen a very ancient place. The castle looks good as it is surrounded by mountains and it is the only building over there along the river. I saw an entry in your contest and it contained the same river you shared I guess so!!
Loket Castle wanna be unbelievable creation by old civilians of Prague. It had more history and strongly show his proud to us. I prefer to their roof style. It's Prague's construction style @czechglobalhosts. Rive increase Castle's fascinating style. That's great location to seek.
