Australian Post Office.......'from a By Gone Era.'

One of the many fascinating places to visit within the Heritage Village Museum in Caboolture, in Queensland, Australia is The Post Office..........from a By Gone Era.

This amazing museum is located on 280 Beerburrum Road and is one of the top tourist destinations in the region. Keen volunteers and supporters were responsible for creating this large tourist attraction which comprises of over 70 buildings, with more than 110,000 museum pieces available on display.

One really does feel like they have stepped back in time when exploring the village streets and entering old buildings such as this one.

This quaint blue wooden wagon with its red wheels is in pretty good condition, despite its age.

The bronze plague at the entrance of the Post Office reads;

"Post Office Building. This building was the main room of the 2nd Caboolture Post Office. It dates from last century and Cobb & Co Coaches would stand at its doors to deliver the mail. The service started in 1869 between here and Jimna, when Mr.Geddes opened the first Post Office."

"The telegraph pole behind this Post Office was obtained from Mr. Jim O'Brien. It also dates from 1869 when the telegraph service to Gympie was inaugurated."

A very solid postage stamp machine featuring 2 and 5 cent stamps issues a warning on the front of it, 'Not to Use Bent Coins.'

That does look like an interesting place. Is that an old switchboard toward the end? That thing looks interesting and difficult to work with. I suppose the person who worked it had it down to muscle memory, though.

Yes I think in those days a lot of the Post Offices work was done manually like the connecting of landlines and also my husbands sister used to have to deliver telegrams to people by car. This was her job as an employee at her local telephone exchange. My, how things have changed. Thanks for your comments @fotosdenada
