Day 2 in America: New York 1
Hi guys
Wonderful to have you back enjoying our story.
We slept like babies after that long journey yesterday.
First part of the story
The first thing I did today was calling British airways for our luggage.
Very friendly again, they told us that it was found in London and that its shipped to New York today. We could expect them to deliver it to us today evening or tomorrow morning. Puhhhh, at least they know where it is :)
Ok, so back in our old cloth. We washed the most important parts yesterday evening by hand, so its not too bad...
So what to do first?
Just get out for a relaxed coffee!!
So after leaving the houses we headed towards the direction of Hudson river.
Just a few blocks further we had this incredible view at the skyline of New York.
What a thing to see in the morning.
After slowly walking down that nice path, we found a nice gas station shop that offered really really good coffee and some sandwiches.
Recommendation: Take a coffee and breakfast to go and Sit down at a park bench enjoying the great lookout at Manhattan from the Jersey side of the Hudson river.
Just wonderful!!
We enjoyed that so much!!!
After finishing breakfast we went down to the river using a small staircase.
Around here are lots of people doing sport.
Especially one guy impressed us by running up and down the big staircase multiple times totally focused. Seemed to be Rocky 2.0
We directly found a small ferry harbour that offers to bring you to middle Manhattan for 9$ or also go all the way downtown and maybe further for 13$.
We decided to only go across the river. It was beautiful to see Manhattan from the boat perspective. Nevertheless the boat was so fast that this nice experience didn't last long.
We later got told that you should really take the long tour by boat.
(As we plan to go back to NY at the end of our journey, maybe we get a second chance)
We arrived in Manhattan close to the bus terminal at 42nd street where we have been the day before.
Heading along the street we suddenly found the times square.
I only knew it from movies and pictures till now and I thought it would be a lot bigger.
Alena told me that she got the recommendation to only go there by night as its not worth to do it during daylight.
Nevertheless we went there and it was awesome. There are so many interesting and crazy people running around there. (Maybe even more at these days because of the love parade that was taking place at the same day in New York)
We took some wonderful pictures there and even got very nice T-shirts at the hard rock coffee shop. (Very important for our noses as you already know that it was our second day without luggage ;)
Recommendation: Going to time square at daylight is in my opinion a very good idea to get a feeling how positively crazy this city is.
From there we walked down the Broadway (Not so interesting during daylight) to the Central Park as we were still tired from our journey and wanted to relax a bit.
I have never seen such a busy park before.
Lots and lots of people, bikers and bike-taxi-wagons everywhere.
The park is huge and so we continued to the north.
Recommendation: The streets in the park are winding and not straight. To still find your way to a specific direction, remember some big buildings close to the park that you can always check for!
If you move further north in the park, it gets a bit more calm and in my opinion even more beautiful.
The right thing for us on a day where we still had some sleep deficit.
Recommendation: If you go to central park, don't sit down right away, but continue a bit further north to the area around the 2 lakes.
Last thing we did was calling again for our luggage. We got told that the transport company transferred the luggage already to NY west and that they are going to bring it to us the next morning. So I put my alarm to 8:00 to not miss them.
To be continued soon.
