How (and why) we got lost in Venice Italy.

in #travel7 years ago

Normally there’s a difference between “taking the wrong turn” and “getting lost.” But in Venice they are pretty much synonymous.

We stayed in a Venetian palace apartment in Canargio. right on the canal. Amazing views

We loved our trip to Venice and getting lost, in the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.

The Rialto Bridge Considered the true heart of Venice, this landmark bridge, characterized by its 24-foot arch, is built on approximately 12,000 wooden pilings that still support the bridge more than 400 years after it was built.
