The heart of Europe in my heart

in #travel7 years ago

Bratislava, located in the centre of Europe, holds a special place in my heart. It’s the city where I was born and where I spent my childhood. It’s now over 20 years since I left, but each time I visit I marvel at how beautiful it is.

The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava is a vibrant European city, with over 2,000 years of history, full of restored historic buildings and dominated by a castle above the river Danube.

It is the only capital in the world bordering two countries, Austria and Hungary. Austria’s capital Vienna is only 60 km away.

The Old Town (Stare Mesto) is well preserved with narrow cobbled streets that are lined with beautiful pastel buildings. Charming old squares are filled with shops and cafes.

Other attractions in the City centre include St. Martin’s Cathedral and Michael’s Gate.
History of Bratislava dates back to pre-Roman times, resulting in impressive diversity of architecture. You will find everything from medieval fortification, renaissance, baroque and rococo style facades mixed with modern architecture.

Bratislava is small and might not offer as many attractions as some other European cities, however due to its proximity to Vienna and Budapest it’s an easy stop-over for any European traveller.
