Gladiator Maximus - "Are you not entertained?"
My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the north, general of the Felix Legions. Loyal servant to the true Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
My name is Don, a travelling artist from #teammalaysia..and I will have my picture taken with my young admirers from Tunisia hehe
The afternoon sun is shining brightly over this magnificient Colosseum. The sheer size of this ochre structure and its aura of grandeur drew my admiration. I'm standing in the middle of the arena and whispered under my breath the line from the movie Gladiator “I knew a man once who said, death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back.” :)
It is a true testament to the engineering skills of the ancient Romans. This El Jem Amphitheater was used for filming some of the scenes from the award winning film The Gladiator.
A short walk from the Amphitheatre is The Archaeological Museum of El-Djem. It has a large collection of mosaics and amongst most elaborate were mosaics of Zeus and Mnemosyne.
Spectacular Roman mosaics on display
Hans Zimmer’s “Now We Are Free” keep humming in my ears..
Free with peace at last
It's lovely, this land
No one can believe or understand
How far I came just for my lovely family
I should have been there
with them when the world crashed down
But now they rest with me.
I'll never forget
How I felt that moment
I became Free.
Till my next posting..au revoir pour le moment..goodbye for now:)
Cheers
