Wat Si Khom Kham, a beautiful ancient temple in Phayao province, in the North of Thailand
Wat Si Khom Kham is a beautiful and ancient temple that has been in Phayao province for more than 500 years.
In the temple, there is a wide courtyard that is a very beautiful and relaxing viewpoint of Kwan Phayao which is the largest lake in northern Thailand.
The atmosphere is good and the sunset over the lake is stunning.
Wat Si Khom Kham is also the place where the principal Buddha statue, named Phra Chao Ton Luang, is enshrined.
It’s believed that Phra Chao Ton Luang is the largest and oldest Buddha statue with Chiang Saen style in Lanna.
We can say that Phra Chao Ton Luang has magnificent art that is very hard to find in other temples.
Furthermore, people also believe that Phra Chao Ton Luang is a representative of the Lord Buddha and it will bring good fortune, happiness and progress to people’s life.
Therefore, it can attract many people to visit the temple and pay homage to.
Apart from Phra Chao Ton Luang, the Ubosot in the middle of the water is also another highlight of the Wat Si Khom Kham.
It is a Thai-style Ubosot located in the middle of a pond with a bridge connecting it to the other side.
Inside, there are murals that tell the story of the life of the Buddha and the way of life of the people.
As you can see, if you visit Wat Si Khom Kham, you can pay homage to Phra Chao Ton Luang, make merit, and fully enjoy the picturesque view of Kwan Phayao as well. It’s worth visiting indeed.
