There is a city in Spain that is seeking UNESCO World Heritage status. Where, the habit of gathering with neighbors wants this city to be patented in UNESCO as a heritage. As quoted from REUTERS, residents of the city of Algar in southern Spain have a habit in the summer.

In summer, they will gather with neighbors, chat, drink coffee, and eat together. But as time went on, the habit was seen less and less. It is suspected that the development of the internet has reduced interactions with neighbors through face-to-face or hanging out.

Therefore, the people of Algar are trying to list their unique traditions on the UNESCO list. In summer, when the sun begins to set and the air begins to cool, Algars usually start pulling chairs out of their homes. In fact, they usually start carrying the table at once.

They will feel at home outside the house enjoying the breeze, playing cards, chatting, and relaxing. Seeing this, the Mayor of Algar, Jose Carlos Sanchez, hopes that conditions will change and appeals to more residents to support the city's efforts to register the tradition with UNESCO.

"No one in the house, everyone on the street, strengthens this initiative and wants to make Algar a UNESCO Intangible Heritage of Humanity". he said.

The idea is to prevent the internet from ending this tradition. As for what Sanchez will remember from his childhood, this tradition was a delight for family and neighbors in Algar.

"When the social networking boom hit, everyone was in the media. Now I think people are starting to leave face-to-face interactions, to talk face-to-face... What we're trying to achieve is to have harmony and friendliness and go back to the traditional way," he said.
