Elafonisi beach and its pink sand! - Crete, Greece
Whatever you say about crystal clear waters, a white sandy beach and enchanting landscapes will be very little to describe what you will really face by coming to Elafonissi beach. The crystal clear waters of the sea in this exotic place have beautiful colors in all shades of blue and sky-blue. In many places where the waves pop out, the sand has an outstanding pink color shade, a unique feature of this secluded beach. To swim, you will need to walk long enough, since the waters are too shallow, making this destination ideal for children.
The area is located 73 km southwest of Chania and has been named after a rocky island. A narrow strip of sea from warm and shallow waters separates Crete from this small island, which is about 200 meters from the coast and you can visit it by walking. In 1907 Elafonissi was attacked the Austrian Imperatrix ship and the 38 victims of the wreck are rumored to be buried there. There is a big cross that you will find on the island along with a small church and a small lighthouse on the southwest side.
