Freelance Writing Gigs You Can Do While Traveling
I didn’t really start to dive into the world of online work until I started traveling; I starting with drop shipping, Mturk (Amazon Mechanical Turk), YouTube, blogging and eventually I stepped into the word of Freelance, which is one of the top online jobs people find themselves doing as Digital Nomads. Unlike drop-shipping, blogging or affiliate marking you do have to please clients to get paid, it’s a bit more like being an independent contractor, but you have the freedom to not work with anyone that you feel may be difficult to work with, or just isn't a good fit for you. Freelance jobs give you the ability to travel the world and still be able to earn a living, all you need is decent Wi-Fi, some skills, motivation and some type of electronic device; smartphone, tablet or laptop and you're ready to go. In this article, I’m going to be going over the top freelance jobs that pay well and are in demand.
# Top 15 Freelance Writing Jobs That Pays Well
Freelance writing
Blogging
Now freelance writing can fall under a number of different categories and under those categories are sub-categories, like blogging, where you ghostwrite on someone else's blog or blogs. Now blogging itself is one way to earn a living as a freelance writer but blogging alone can fall under an endless number of topics, such as fashion, health, travel or how to's. And I always feel it's best to write about what you already know, have knowledge of or passionate about. When marketing yourself as a freelancer in any field some say it's best to niche down and try to dominate that market or at least make a name for yourself, build a reputation as the go-to person to write about whatever topic you choose as your preferred expertise.
Article writing
Similar to blog writing, you write articles for different websites, companies or online newspapers or magazines, like the Huffington Post, Forbes or Vice. Article writing is a bit more technical and fact-based, then just blogging or creative writing, less room to for imagination and a bit more precise.
Essay Writing
Essay writing is basically writing other students essays; high school or college students will pay you to write a well-written essay, on a variety of topics, that sure to get them an A and there a few different websites that cater to that specific type of freelance writing such as iWriteEssays.com, Fiverr, and Upwork….
Songwriting:
You can get paid to write a full-fledged 16 bar song or just a small jingle for a commercial, product or brand or something even more personalized, like a song for someone's wedding.
Ad writing:
This is something I have done in the past, where big and small business will pay you to write their advertisements…They will usually give you a rundown on what their brand or company is about, give you a few keywords and allow you to use your expertise to come up with an AD or slogan that will sell their products, brand or services.
Review writing
Review writing is another writing job that I have done in the past; yes, all those reviews you see companies so proudly display on their websites could have just been written by someone who was paid to do so. Some companies will ask you to write a completely fictional made up Positive review about their company, product or service, while others will ask you to actually research their brand or product for yourself first and then write an “authentic” but positive review.
Ghostwriting or creative writing
Just like writing someone else's blog, you basically write someone else's book, that they will own the rights to and they will be displayed as the author of the book. This is especially prominent when it comes to the world of E-books. An e-book doesn't necessarily have to be a novel, in fact, E-books that have fewer pages to read sometimes sell better than more long-winded books because we just simply live in a society where people are busy and want their instant gratification.
A lot of people don’t have the time to finish an 800-page novel, so some prefer shorter books that they can read during a couple of lunch breaks; they want to know how the story ends now and not in two weeks. Therefore, a lot of individuals who want to get into the business of E-books (which by the way is another great way to make passive income online) but not everyone has the talent, the time, the creative skills or the imagination to write an entire book, so they will hire ghostwriters to write 100-500 page E-books. Sometimes they will just give you a topic and allow you the freedom to just write, other times they will write a rough draft themselves and ask you to use that a starting point and allow you to use your creative skills, expertise and maybe some facts to fill in the blanks to finish the book or e-book.
Product Description
Companies and brands will pay individuals to simply write descriptions for products that they're already selling or will sell in the near future. This could be because someone wants to create or already has an e-commerce site but don’t necessarily have the skills or time to sit down and write a description for every single product that their selling; trust me I've had e-commerce sites before and writing a description for 30-60-80 items can be tedious and time-consuming but if it's something that you could enjoy doing as a freelance writing gig then you could be hired to write an enticing but factual description to products or services for companies or individuals.
I have a friend who gets paid to do this exact thing, he's contracted out to one guy who creates and flips e-commerce sites ( which again is another great way to make money online) but yeah my friend writes all the descriptions for all the products on multiple websites, he gets paid well, I believe per word, maybe per item with a word minimum but it pays enough for him to continue his travels and maybe it could pay for yours as well, Again sites like Fiverr, Upwork and Freelance.com are great places to look for freelance opportunities of all kinds and also these sites are a great way to display your digital portfolios and market yourself as a writer and as a professional in your field of choice..

So as you can see there are tons of opportunities to make money as a freelance writer, you don’t have to be exceptionally creative either, you could just be someone who is an expert or passionate in certain fields, like science, fitness, health, travel or medicine and you could just work mainly in the article and essay writing genre. If you're someone who is really good at taking directions, then maybe descriptive writing is for you. If you're someone who maybe has a background in sell's you could go into AD writing. If you have a musical talent, then songwriting might be for you. Maybe your specialty is creative writing, you have a passion for words and using them to spark others imagination to tell a story, then ghostwriting might be the right choice for you.
A bit of Advice: Again in my experience, it makes life and the job easier and more enjoyable if you write about things you already know, things that already spark your interest or could spark your interest or something you're already passionate about. I know when I write forcing the words out makes it just that much harder to want to finish the job and when your self-employed motivation is key and it's hard to get motivated if you read what you're doing. Yes, you could just write about whatever pays the bills but again in my experience that can quickly become very mundane and if you want to keep yourself motivated in my opinion it's best to write what you would already want to write about, in most cases but not all.
Freelance writing can be very competitive especially if you are just starting out. In the beginning of your fledgling freelance writing career, it can be frustrating to compete with the freelance veterans of the world but don’t give up, keep submitting for different jobs and market yourself. Having a blog is a great way to display your writing skills, style and expertise on whatever you choose to write about. A blog can serve as an online portfolio, where clients can see if your style of writing is what they're looking for.
There are plenty of platforms to find Freelance work, such as Upwork, freelance.com, Elance and Fiverr…Fiverr in my opinion, is a great platform for people who are just starting out in their Freelance careers.
