Columbia River Gorge: Sketchy Munra Point Hike & Epic Waterfalls - 1080p 60fps videosteemCreated with Sketch.

This is a throwback video to some of my time spent in the USA during my 2016 solo 2000-mile West Coast bicycle tour.

Multnomah Falls

Humungous Multnomah Falls - and a little bit of thumb

I had a day off from riding and spent it with a cool long-time-friend-from-the-internet. We got up early and drove from Portland down the Columbia River Gorge. First stop was Multnomah Falls. Words can't even describe how epic it is. A total fall of 189 metres (620 ft). Being showered in mist was a great start to the day. We wandered up the zig-zag trail to the viewing platform at the top. Definitely worth doing if you're visiting!

Then we set our sights on summiting Munra Point a little further along the road. At 533 metres (1,740 ft) high it is a visually striking and jagged peak along the edge of the canyon. If you're local to Oregon, you probably know about it. The hike was super sketchy and my Nike running shoes were definitely not cut out for the job. Luckily, my lead was very experienced in mountain exploration so I was in safe hands. Although, my repressed fear of heights did surface somewhat as I was perched upon the small, jutted summit. The wind and cold didn't help either. Sadly, a young woman had lost her life in the previous days on this very trail. We didn't know at the time. Please be careful out there guys and if you do decide to hike alone then let people know where you're going.

We slammed some doughnuts then headed to another waterfall and did some hiking up a smaller gorge too. This involved some wading through a pretty strong river and climbing on a natural log dam / jam.

Yes, I had a lot of experiences that day. I hope you enjoy the video!

(Skip to 1:40 if you're not a fan of jibber-jabber and just want to see awesome nature content!)

A couple of bonus photos for Steemit eyes only! The first is from the summit of Munra Point looking west along the Columbia River towards Portland with my gracious guide in the foreground. The second is also from the summit but looking in a more southerly direction up into higher levels of the canyon.

And lastly, for all of you who are into maps and data, here are the stats from the hike...
