Travelling the USA west coast Part 2: The Redwoods (bilingual English/German)

Last week I started my series about my roundtrips on the USA west coast with my favorite destination and starting point San Francisco. Getting acclimated with a few days of sightseeing it is time to start the roundtrip. One way to leave San Francisco is going north on 101. Following this Road will bring you to one of the most fascinating woods on earth. Letzte Woche habe ich meine Serie über meine Rundreisen an der West der USA mit meinem Lieblingsankunftsort und Ausgangspunkt San Francisco begonnen. Nach ein paar Tagen Sightseeing zum Akklimatisieren ist es Zeit die Rundreise zu starten. Eine Möglichkeit San Francisco zu verlassen ist es die 101 in nördlicher Richtung. Wenn man dieser Straße folgt kommt man in einen der faszinierendsten Wälder der Erde.

The Redwood National Park / Der Redwood (Riesenmammutbaum) Nationalpark

A good place to start your journey into the woods is Garberville. During my three times up there the Humboldt House Inn was my choice stay overnight. It has been always a comfortable and quite place to sleep shttp://www.humboldthouseinn.com/) with good service. Shot is taken from my balcony. Ein guter Ort um eine Urkundungstour in den Wäldern zu beginnen ist Garberville. Während meiner drei Aufenthalte habe ich dort immer im Humboldt House Inn übernachtet. Das Haus ist sehr ruhig und komfortabel und mit gutem Service.

From here you can go in nearly every direction and discover interesting places. Garberville is also the start of the Avenue of Giants which leads through the woods along some of the biggest Redwoods. Von hier aus gibt es in fast jeder Richtung interessante Plätze zu entdecken. In Gaberville beginnt auch die Avenue of Giants die an einigen der größten Redwoods vorbei führt.

A dream come true/ Ein Traum wird wahr

Back in school in my English lessons we often had talked about America. One thing kept in my mind and that was a tree with a hole in it to drive through with your car. After a little bit of research, I found it has to be the Chandeliers Tree named after its shape. The tree is in located Leggett near Garberville. On the picture you can see my dream come true. In meiner Schulzeit habe wir im Englischunterricht oft über Amerika gesprochen. Dabei ist ein Bild von einem Baum mit einem Loch durch das man mit einem Auto fahren kann bei mir hängen geblieben. Nach kurzer Recherche konnte ich den Baum ausfindig machen. Es handelt sich um den Chandelier Tree (Kronleuchter) benannt nach seiner Form. Der Baum befindet sich in Leggett in der Nähe von Garberville.

Actually there are two drive through trees located. The mentioned Chandeliers Tree and the Shrine Tree. In der Umgebung befinden sich zwei Bäume die die Möglichkeit bieten mit dem Auto hindurch zu fahren. Der bereits erwähnte Chandelier Tree (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandelier_Tree ) und der Shrine Tree (http://www.redwoods.info/showrecord.asp?id=3947) .

The Tree House / Das Haus im Baum

Driving through the woods will bring you to alot of interesting places like the tree house. Here someone cut a hole big enough to live in into the trunk of a tree. Während man durch die Wälder fährt kommt man an vielen interessanten Plätzen wie dem Tree House vorbei. Hier hat jemand ein Loch groß genug, um darin zu leben, in einen Baum geschnitten.

Leaving the giants/ Die Riesen verlassen

The picture was taken on the morning before leaving Garberville to go back to San Francisco. But this time on another road… Part 3 with impressions of Highway 1… Stay tuned!
