[Portugal Adventure] The day I turned into a pig :D [Ready for some delicious Portuguese food?]
Hi Fellow Steemians!
If you follow my blog you'll know that I'm in Porto, Portugal! So far it has been a brilliant city that has inspired me to explore every nook and cranny from the highest point to its lowest cellars. Today, I decided to see what kind of food Porto has to offer and I ended up eating till I was so full I could barely walk!
The Douro River by night
Hope you enjoy the food below! (And if you have any other recommendations please comment below :D)
Dama Pe de Cabra
The highlight of this place was the exceptional service that the owner provided! He had a slight British accent that complimented the manner in which he held himself. He explained the background of his restaurant (That it was a grocery store that specialises in traditional Portuguese foods) and each element to his menu in a carefully detailed way.
The restaurant offered starters of different breads made with either carrot, chestnut and pumpkin and a board that included traditional sausages and cheese. It also made available various sandwiches that ranged from vegetarian to fish to meat fillings. For @kellykim and I, it was the morning and we weren't so hungry so we just opted for the bread, sausage and cheese boards! But, I'm sure that the other options on the menu are as good of a choice as the one we got!
Total price: 20 Euros
From Left to Right: Chestnut, Carrot, Pumpkin
A Grade
This restaurant is both a humble mum-and-dad operation and a masterwork of traditional fare. It was tucked in a small alley right next to the Douro River that made it hard to find unless you knew what you were looking for. A Grade was a small restaurant that had a history to it that you could just tell from the pictures hanging on the walls and the owners who greeted you from the door with a warm handshake.
From the menu we opted for the octopus fillets with rice and the seafood pasta. The highlight of this restaurant (other than the taste) is the generous portions they provided. While other restaurants might give 2 octopus fillets, they gave 3 and the pasta was packed with seafood!
Total Price: 32 Euros
Octopus rice that came with the octopus fillets
Porta 4
Porta 4 was hidden in a street of ordinary houses. When we were finding the place we almost walked past it because of its small entrance and the tiny area behind it. You could tell right from the start that it was a place where you would normally have to make a reservation to be able to get a spot.
When we actually called to make a reservation we got a response that they had closed for a month due to renovations and had only opened yesterday! So we were the only guests that evening because no one else knew that it was open :) What a treat for us! The chef, rather than giving us a menu (because they didn't have a new one yet) decided to make us her recommendations and it was certainly an interesting experience.
Total Price: 30 Euros
Sausage and cheese board
Vegetarian Wrap
Chilli Con Carne
Octopus on celery mash
As you can see I turned into a pig today! And I plan to on the next day as well so stay tuned!
