Natchez State Park and Ticks

Growing up in Alaska where there are no ticks, I had never seen one before. My limited knowledge includes, ticks are bad and treat your dog.

Night before last, as we were enjoying some much needed sun around the camp, my husband called me over and said, "Look! look! while holding Meeka's neck scruff. "Its's a tick, can you see?" I told him I didn't care to see, just get it off.

It wasn't 20 minutes later that I got to see one fot myself. Meeka was sitting at my feet and movement caught my eye. Sure enough, a tick was crawling up her tail. I brushed it off and decided she had had enough out door time.

I checked her all over, finding another by her collar. I was totally freaked out. Meeka got to spend very little time outside yesterday and I didn't let her sleep in her normal place on our bed for two nights.

We are moving on today but I think ticks are going to be part of our life now. Meeka is treated, but there is still so much I don't know. If anyone one has words of comfort or advice I'd appreciate it very much.
