In the last thirty years, architects have been trying to remove their focus from the design based on the principles of the theater hall, which revolved around the main year of the show and its centrality.

Porto's House of Music (Casada Music), instead of the inescapable excellence of ways to hear the sound in this traditional form, tries to reinforce the traditional way of concert hall in another way by redefining the relationship between the holy space of the interior and the public space. .

The Casaada Music House, the host of the new Puerto Orchestra, is located in a new public square in Rotunda. It is made of white concrete, with a distinctly multifaceted shape, which remains solid and believable in the era of numerous statues and statues.

The position of the music house was the key to the development of OMA's thoughts; they decided to not create a new concert hall within the boundaries of the old buildings that defines Rutonda, but a single building on a flat floor paved with stone travertine, opposite the Rotunda Park In the neighborhood of a working-class area. With this approach, issues of symbolism, visibility, and accessibility were solved in a single move.

In addition, the summit conference hall, as a simple mass constructed of a solid form of the building, ended. The music house building also includes a smaller run space with more flexibility and no fixed seats, ten playrooms, a studio There is a training room, a restaurant, a terrace, a bar, a VIP room, office space and an underground parking lot with a capacity of 600 cars.

The VIP section features hand-painted tiles that blend traditional village views while rooftop terraces are tiled with black and white geometric designs. The public flooring is also often aluminum.

In the design of this building, no lobby or social center has been included, in lieu of a continuous public link connecting the spaces around the conference hall using stairs, escalators and platforms. Porto was founded in 2001 as one of the two European cultural capitals, and the Porto Ministry of Culture and Municipality established Porto 2001 as an organization to prepare and launch various cultural and urban actions for the city of Porto. In this context, five international architectural firms were investigated, among whom OMA was invited for a limited partnership in the construction of a new concert hall in the historic center of Porto.

Urban

Since this part of Porto was still a "untouched" city, OMA decided not to modify the new concert hall as part of a small circular wall around Rutonda, but to build an individual building on a newly formed square. It is surrounded by three urban blocks and connected to the historic Rutonda Park. With this attitude, issues of symbolism, visibility, and accessibility were solved in a single move.

After the intervention of OMA architects, the Rutonda Park, through continuity and controversy, is no longer the only link between the old Porto and Porto, but a positive attitude from two different city models.

Acoustic

After reviewing the acoustic quality of the concert halls, they concluded that the best salons in the world had a shoe box.

The concept of architecture

Given that most cultural institutions at one time can serve a limited population, most people are seeing their form and structure, and only a small number of people know what's going on inside. OMA, taking into account Building as a solid mass, the relationship between the concert hall and the public space is considered at home and abroad.

The OMA group was trying to provide the building with its contents without any need for training in the city, while the city was open to the public in such a way that it had never happened before.

The remaining spaces range from several public functions to display, including secondary service spaces such as home space, a restaurant, terrace, technical spaces, and vertical transportation.

In this project, a continuous public path connecting all the public functions and the "remaining spaces" around the large hall, with stairs, platforms and escalators, is located: this building is an architectural adventure. A total of spaces have created a circle that allows the use of the building for the festival with concurrent performances. This building includes many rooms, including multi-player and single-use practice rooms, a dressing room for the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as facilities for guests and guests. OMA architects have been explored exclusively for Casa da Musica during the design of new materials and new uses of existing materials, including corrugated glass for conference hall windows, tiles used for various rooms, canopies and walls in the grand hall. They gave.

Building structure

The Casa da Music Hall is clearly featured with its tiled facade, which is extracted from its simplest and most popular interior spaces. Building with a shell thickness of 400 mm and the walls of the main conference hall with a thickness of 1 meter are the initial load carrying system and buildings. The walls of the showrooms act as internal diaphragms, and the concrete mix was used for external views.
