Alternative Housing! Floating On A Houseboat In Hamburg.
Organized and planned traveling was never my style. This time I didn't even know that I will end up for a long Easter weekend in the exciting and super cool German town of Hamburg, for another cool event and a very special day on my friend Tschiggy's "HAUSBOOT" on the Dove-Elbe in Moorfleet.
Living on houseboats could be a great option for developing living space in growing cities.
Find a mix of nature and industrial atmosphere.
I was really horribly sick for nearly 1.5 weeks and got too much in the blues, without any motivation to get up and go again. My dear friend Pitzi called out of nowhere with the question: "Hey get up ! Let's go to Hamburg!" I hesitated.....5 minutes later I topped up my new Revolut Digital Banking Card and booked the flights.
Due to low crypto values I was a bit mad to spend some of my BTC and Steem but then I thought that life is too short to safe and hold and maybe miss out on a few awesome days. I really needed to get back on track.
My mood was at zero and I probably wouldn't have gotten out of bed for another week. Look at all my pictures to know that this trip was more than well worth it.
Living on the water by day & night!
The moon was our light source.
The spring sun our warmth.
Wouldn't it be fun, if floating on houseboats could be the future? It might be the perfect option for many cities, built on rivers, to stay connected to nature, feeling the waves, greeted by ducks while cooking delicious potato soup.
Hamburg’s real estate is not all land-based; there are some houseboats, too. Surprisingly few, actually, given the extent of shoreline along rivers, lakes and canals. This is a water city; locals boast that Hamburg has more bridges than Venice and Amsterdam together. Maybe the lack of houseboats is due to the fact that many of the canals are tidal, and the Elbe itself can be fairly temperamental.
The house boat as a model for bohemians
Many young people in the 60’s and 70’s discovered this feeling of being close to life and yet detached from the world as an alternative form of housing. Not only in Amsterdam and Copenhagen did life on a house boat become a popular goal for a generation opposed to the “Establishment”, or in this case the “Settlement.” In Berlin, Hamburg And Cologne, permanent moorings for barges and inland vessels that have been converted into house boats exist to this day.- Source

Thanks for such wonderful time!

Such a cool holiday! Seems like a wonderful experience. And really great photos.
I couldn't help noticing the kitchen area looks tidier than my kitchen :)
It's an obsession of mine - even in movies with serial killers, the kitchen always looks neat. Damn...
You didn't say anything about the tatttoo convention...:)
Thats so so funny! yeah that kitchen was magic and the potato soup even more :)
tattoo convention photos will be next ...stay tuned
I wondered if you had anything up yet on this adventure.... Great stuff as always friend.
One of my options when I get outta this police state is living on a boat!
😝 I am not sure where I want to live ....maybe behind the moon
Well, at least come visit me first lol
Have a nice weekend you.
Wow. These photos are really awesome. The house boat has so much character and is like stepping into a different world, it's like being transported in time.
Yeah that’s how I felt! I was transported into another creative space .....I didn’t want to step out of it
These pics are amazing! You are so lucky to travel so much! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us 💜
I love to move! It makes me feel “alive”
Great experience! and Hamburg is a lovely place, I read that the state makes a complete renovation of the embankment and all the zones close to the river - like new center of the city, don't know if they are done or not. Once I also slept on the boat hotel but in Bratislava and it was super cold -15 :))) and it was hard to heat, I wonder how to spend winter on this kind of boat, must be challenging.
Nice inside, thank you for this post @mammasitta. I love houseboats as well! :)
What a beautiful place you visited, it would be hard for me to live on the water, I get dizzy hahahaha. But I think you need to try a little fishing there, it looks good area and with that boat-house more!
I would love to live on such a boat for a while....Usually you don't move around with it. Its just like a flat
I am jealous.
All of them beautiful! It must have been lovely there!
