RE: TRAVELMAN VIETNAM: A Two Day Cruise in Halong Bay (part one)

in #travel7 years ago

I too had longed to see Halong Bay, and finally got there about 4 years ago. It is very other worldly, and very beautiful.

It's interesting that your guide spoke only average, halting English. Our guide was a young lady who spoke almost perfect English, and she had learned it without ever going overseas to learn in an English-speaking country. Very impressive.

How was the food? I went on a 1-night tour, and the dinner they served on the boat was superb. But then again, ALL the food I ate in Vietnam was excellent, from the salads to the potato dishes to the seafood to the apple-cinnamon tea!!

The food was average, I talk about it in part 3. It was the same as provided on every tour aimed at frugal backpackers. Was your cruise on the more upscale side, I’ve heard those exist but did not look into them. I had the best meal of my trip last night in Hoi An. Amazing food! I also talk about my theory as to the odd cadence of the guides in part 3 of this Halong Bay journey.

Yes, I was on a rather upscale cruise. But even in Hanoi and on Catba island, I thought the food was superb. No processed crap, just fresh and very tasty local food.

Yeah, totally agree with that! I had great food in Hanoi and up North (in some places).
