Lapu-Lapu City, formerly known as Opon, is a first class, highly urbanized city in the province of Cebu. This occupies most of Mactan Island and also covers the area of Olango Island and neighboring islets.
The City is connected to the City of Mandaue through the Old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge and Marcelo Fernan Bridge. It is also nearby the town of Cordova, Cebu. Mactan - Cebu International Airport is also located here which serves as the gateway for domestic and international tourist.
To attract tourist to visit Lapu - Lapu, the City is branding itself as the Historic Resort City. Why Historic Resort City?
According to the City Mayor, Hon. Paz C. Radaza, "We, Oponganons are proud of our illustrious past. We want to show the world how proud we are of what our forefathers did in the Liberty Shrine of Mactan."

In addition, this branding campaign also will create a culture of tourism that demands the locals to give five-star service to guest both local and international. Aside for having historic sites, the city is also known for its world-class resorts. Indeed, Lapu-Lapu City does not only have a prominent seat in the history but we are also blessed with sand and sea tourism and world class hotels and resorts.
The City is also adopting "Free Yourself" as its tourism slogan and also adopting yellow, orange, blue and green as the official colors.
