Canals of Hamburg #1 - Hamburg-Nord

There are two major rivers running through Hamburg, one is the 'Alster' which comes from the north, winds itself through the many canals and the 'Außenalster' a huge artificial lake, until it reaches the 'Elbe', in the south of Hamburg. Today I want to give you some impressions of the canals in the northern part of the city.

The 'Rondeelkanal' connects the 'Außenalster' with the wonderful 'Rondeelteich', which is the most beautiful pond you can visit with a boat, and only with boat, in Hamburg. (1)

The three pictures above are showing the 'Goldbekkanal' it starts at the central park lake and runs into the 'Rondeelkanal'. (4)

This one I took at one of my favourite places to rest. At one way you are for yourself, but also there is much going on because of the train station across the river and many rowers which are passing by. (5)

At the 'Leinpfadkanal', which you can see in the pictures above, there are many pretty houses and a lovely nunnery. The 'Leinpfad', the street along the canal also is one of the most expensive streets to live here. (7)

Parrallel to the 'Leinpfadkanal' is also a really natural looking canal (8)

And last but not least another beautiful part of the 'Goldbekkanal'. (9)

There are many ways to explore this canals, you can rent a canoe, a pedalo, a SUP or the newest thing a water bike, which sounds much cooler than it looks. The cheapest and most comfortable way is to take the 'Alsterdampfer', the historic public transport of the city, which got many different routes. If you ever come and visit here, I marked all the places on the map below and I hope I could give you a nice overview of the alster canals in the north of Hamburg.
