A magical weekend at the Veranda High Resort in Chiang Mai, Thailand - My travel diary
Dear steemit community!
Today I am going to tell you about our beautiful weekend trip to the "Veranda High Resort" in Chiang Mai.
During my stay in Chiang Mai, a lot of people told me about the Veranda High Resort. After I did a little bit of research I knew that I have to go there. I told my boyfriend and we decided to spend a weekend there.
Veranda High Resort is located in the hills of Chiang Mai between tea and rice paddies. A scenic forty-minute drive from the airport is required to reach the resort. This boutique five-star resort blends modern materials with elements of traditional Thai construction methods. The result is a stunning architectural masterpiece. Veranda High Resort is a beautiful fusion of old and new. Striking wood and steel structures are featured in the dramatic open lobby while a replica wall of the ancient city of Chiang Mai is located just beyond. It really is an oasis of calm, where you can escape the daily bustle and find your inner Zen. It offers a wonderful package of spa treatments and an amazing Thai cuisine. So you can really enjoy the time at this magical place.
If you decide to spend a weekend or a few days at this amazing hotel then you have several options how to get there. As I already said. It´s only a forty minutes drive from the old city.
You can go there by Songthaew, Taxi, Uber, Scooter or an own car. Whatever you prefer.
We decided to take Uber as it was more convenient for us and Uber is super cheap in Chiang Mai.
The hotel also offers a free shuttle service which we used to come back to the city. You can also use the shuttle from Chiang Mai to go to the resort but for that, you need to call the hotel one day before to find out when their shuttle will leave from the city.
Once you arrive there you will be flashed from the beauty of this resort. The staff welcomes you with a cocktail and another person will drive you with a golf cart to your room. Everything is really perfect.
Veranda High Resort offers 69 contemporary guestrooms and villas. There are six different room categories. The prices for the rooms are very different. The cheapest rooms are 4500 baht per night which are around 140$. For the villas and other rooms, there are no limits I guess. Of course, breakfast is always included.
We stayed in a Valley Deluxe Scenery guestroom, with beautiful views overlooking the tea and rice paddies and the mountains beyond. The room was extremely comfortable, featuring an oversized king bed plus a large day bed, open-concept bathroom with huge stone tub, a lovely dressing room and an outdoor deck.
I would not recommend to book the room over the platforms on the internet as the prices are more expensive. We called the resort directly and the price was much cheaper. But you can also do it online on their website.
I loved the warmth of the timber furnishings and the hip design of the room. It is the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
For me, one of the best things was to wake up, open the balcony and enjoy the beautiful scenery with no cars.
Veranda High Resort has a stunning infinity pool overlooking the lush mountains. A little children’s wading pool is right next to the infinity pool, so everyone can take a dip and enjoy the views. There is something magical about being in the pool. I really loved the design and ambiance of the infinity pool. My only negative point would be the lack of sun loungers by the pool and the water quality. Don´t get me wrong. The water was nice but where there are trees there are also a few insects. So a lot of insects and a lot of blossoms were inside the pool. It would be great if the staff would put out the dirt a bit more often during the day. But the rest was perfect.
We went there outside the main season and it was very quiet at the resort. If you also like it a bit more quiet then I definitely recommend you to go there outside the main season.
Tip: If you don´t want to spend a night at the resort then you can also go there and use only the pools. For that, you need to pay 300 baht (7-8 $) entree per person.
There are also a few other pools which are very nice. But we always preferred the infinity pool as we really enjoyed the view.
As I already mentioned before, the resort offers several spa treatments. The prices for them are very high. In your room, there is a card with all the different kind of treatments so just make sure that you make an appointment early enough.
There are two restaurants: The Higher Room for breakfast and lunch which overlooks the infinity pool and Rabiang Cha for dinner, which is located right next to the rice field. It's very atmospheric here at night. Both restaurants serve excellent Thai food with some Western options. The prices are also a bit higher but the food we had was very nice. You also have the option to order everything to your room.
The breakfast buffet is a mix of Thai and western food including honey from the local hills.
We had a very great time at this place. This resort is just beautiful, especially for couples.
You can also join Yoga and cooking classes for an additional fee.
We really enjoyed our time at the resort. The staff was very polite and efficient. This boutique resort is perfect for a relaxing getaway in the mountains. Laze by the rooftop infinity pool and get lost in a good book or take a picturesque bicycle ride around the nearby hills. You will definitely enjoy your time there.
It´s a very special place with a magical atmosphere. I can highly recommend the Veranda High Resort.
I hope you guys liked my story and I would be very happy about comments or any feedback.
