Hiking into an Active Volcano in the Philippines!

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Um, no it isn't as dangerous despite warnings that it may erupt at any time.

Two weeks ago, I went hiking with my colleagues up the Taal Volcano crater. It's the 2nd most active volcano in the Philippines with 33 historical eruptions. Thank God the 34th didn't happen while we were there which is why I'm still alive writing this. :))))

Imagine this: Taal Volcano is an island within a lake, on an island within a lake, on an island!

Let me help you understand this better: Vulcan Point is an island within the Taal Volcano crater lake, on an island within the Taal Lake, on the island of Luzon (Philippines' largest island).

Still dizzy trying to imagine this? Let me distract you with some pictures:

That's the Taal Volcano crater and there within the crater lake is the Vulcan Point island. That tiny teeny island closer to the opposite side of the ridge.

Climbing up was quite enjoyable and less stressful, perfect for beginners.

But taking a break is essential. :)))))

And, most importantly, a selfie! :)))))

Because it's not everyday that I get to hike into an active volcano.

Please watch the video below. It's not the best. I didn't even think I'd make a compilation in one video. But, hello, iMovie. You made it seem I got it all planned (though not perfect). This is where you'll see that it is indeed an active volcano due to the sulphur fumes it's emitting on the way up the crater. Hope you'll enjoy it!

That's so beautiful, I will visit Philippines someday soon.

wow

this was an amazing shot

Volcanoes are cool. I like hiking them. I haven't been to this one though.
