I am a drinker! When I go to a new country, I am always excited to see the drinking culture. The drink pictured above is a hot rum punch in Kathmandu. I was lucky to find this beautiful new bar, Bar Bar Black Sip in Thamel, the tourist area of Kathmandu. Happy hour is from 3-7. I get 2 of these tasty warm drinks for 400 rupees, which is 4 dollars. I have spent time talking with the owner and bartender, and it's been great.
Two nights ago, I had the privilege of having dinner with some local business owners and a Chinese client of one of them and got some education about Chinese business dealings and how drinking is a big part of it. My educator ordered three bottles of wine in about 45 minutes, which we were expected to drink quickly. He shared with me that unless everyone at the table is drunk, no contracts could be signed. Also, every time you go to take a drink, you have to toast to something and everyone drinks together. It was so much fun. I must get to China at some point soon.
