Mami from the Old Manila restaurant
Mami is a noodle soup made with wheat flour noodles, broth mixed with meat or wonton dumplings.
Ma Mon Luk, a famous restaurant in Manila named after its namesake, is where mami all started.
In 1918, Ma Mon Luk arrived in Manila from China hoping to find his fortune in this new city. He familiarized himself with the streets of Phils.' Chinatown in Binondo. He sell noodles in the streets, with a pair of scissors, he would cut the noodles and meat to serve to his customers. And he called it "gupit", for Tagalog of cut. But later named the dish “Ma mi” which means "Ma’s noodles". As he expands, he add siopao and siomai to his menu. These days they have included pancit, fried chicken to the restaurant's menu.
Decades passed, Ma Mon Luk is still the best place to treat yourself for mami.
Se ve muy bueno. Me recuerda la sopa de la abuela.
