A bit history of Rasnov Citadel

Until now, appearance of fortress had known numerous amendments. The contemporary image keeps architectural elements that can reconstruct the history of fortifications which resisted successfully attacks to which has been subjected to. Access to city itself is not directly, but through an enclosure surrounded by a wall of rock, which is currently in ruin.

The city has two yards: exterior and interior. In outer court ("garden") were housed cattle. Outer court has an entry for armament and food, and another, under the square tower, for cattle. In the fortress enclosure (courtyard) were boxes of the inhabitants, which served as a shelter and pantry during attacks. On top of hill beyond the crowd was built a school and in the year 1650 was raised a chapel whose walls can be seen today. Because of the numerous military security outbreaks, the fortress was "the second hearth of Rasnov". The main problem of this citadel was for a long time, lack of a source of water supply. When the attacks had dipped backward, and water supplies were finished, refugees from the city emerge at night on the main gate and brought water from a spring known only by them.

At present, tourists can visit the inside of the fortress and feudal art museum, which are exposed to the weapons, tools, art galleries, antique furniture, armor, specific ports of the century, various photocopies of the documents of that time. In the museum there are exposed and some unusual objects century, namely, a mask of torture and a yoke used for transporting the prisoners.

In homes occupied by the old inhabitants of Rasnov were arranged boutiques where tourists can purchase various souvenirs, semi-precious stones and art objects, books in which are presented the history and tradition of the place, etc. in center of fortress was arranged and a bar, terrace, where visitors can rest after a long walk among ruins.
