THE tallest trees on the planet are the redwoods of California, achieving heights of 360 feet [110 m] or more. Notwithstanding, the Mexican cypress, a relative of the sequoia, holds the record for width. The most well known example of this tree is found eight miles east of the city of Oaxaca, Mexico, in the town of Santa María del Tule. It is known as the Tule tree. Its base measures a noteworthy 150 feet [46 m]. To give you a thought of its size, it would take no less than 30 people with arms outstretched to surround the trunk, and more than 500 could stay in its shade!
