Aceh Tsunami Museum is a museum in Banda Aceh which was designed as a symbolic monument to the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami as well as an education center and emergency shelter if the tsunami happens again.

It was incomplete if you visited Banda Aceh without visiting the Tsunami Museum. The museum was built by BRR Aceh-Nias after a design competition which was won by M. Ridwan Kamil, an ITB lecturer and entitled to 100 million rupiah. The museum itself spent 140 billion on its construction If you look at it from above, this museum reflects the tsunami waves, but if you look at it from the side (bottom) it looks like a rescue boat with a large deck as an escape building.

Once inside, you feel like you are entering a dark tunnel of tsunami waves with a height of 40 meters with the effect of falling water. Be careful with your head, prepare a wide hat so that your hair and clothes are not wet. For those who are afraid of the dark and still phobic with tsunamis, no It is advisable to enter from this path. After passing this place, dozens of standing screens present photos of post-tsunami in the form of damage and destruction and death, which are full of pictures of victims and pictures of help against them.

After this room, you will enter the "Fighting Room", often called The Light of God. This room is shaped like a semi-dark chimney with the writing of God at the top. This reflects the struggle of the tsunami victims.

Get out of there you go to Hope Bridge. When you reach this bridge, the survivors see the flag of 52 countries, as if holding out their help. Through this bridge, like passing through the tsunami water to a higher place. Here you will be greeted by screening a 15-minute tsunami from the earthquake occurred, when the tsunami occurred until the time of relief.

Out of here you will see lots of giant photos and tsunami artifacts. The big hours that died at 8:00 a.m. or the photo of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque which fell and died also at that time. Other interpretations are miniatures about tsunamis. For example, people who are catching fish in the sea and running to save themselves when the waves exceed the height of the coconut trees crashing on them, or the building of houses that were ravaged by the earthquake before the tsunami came.

Going up to the third floor, there were various kinds of science and technology based earthquake and tsunami knowledge. Among them were the history and potential of tsunamis at all points of the earth, simulations of volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia, earthquake simulations that could be adjusted to what scale we want and if lucky You can also "enjoy" simulating 4D of earthquakes and tsunamis. In addition, there is also an ideal design for spatial planning for areas that have a potential tsunami.

There are also T-shirts and Acehnese souvenirs such as rencong, rencong brooches and bros pinto aceh and there are many more. Go downstairs, you can relax by the Harapan bridge pool while watching ornamental fish or take some photo moments on the museum deck.

Definitely one of the most devastating events of the 21th century :(

The architecture (both outside and inside) seems very brilliantly made. The must have put a lot of engineering and thought into it. Also adorable how it serves as a shelter for future scenarios.

Greetings from Cape Town :)

right, very powerful and devastating. it takes a long time to fix everything. best regards from Aceh
