Doc's Travel diaries #2- Breathtaking trolltunga cliff in Norway! Hike of a lifetime!!!
In the beginning of this month, I traveled to Norway for the second time to hike the Trolltunga!
It is approachable from Odda. You can get a bus from Oslo to Odda and from there to Tyssedal. If you are going before 15th June be prepared to walk uphill 7 km from Tyssedal to Skjeggedal basecamp unless you are willing to pay a couple of days of your earning to a taxi. After June 15th there is a Trolltunga shuttle bus available to the basecamp.
The hike is a total of 22 km (11 up and 11 down). It should take 10 hours to complete (took me 8 as I am aleready used to hiking). Take a good pair of hiking shoes and plenty of food. The water you can refill from the numerous streams on the way. Keep in mind that there is no food available at the base camp. Keep at least 2 days of supply with you.
The first kilometer is quite steep and its gets easier after that. It will get tougher again if you are hiking when the snow has not melted as I did. It is easily one of the most beautiful hikes anyone can go on. The track is filled with beautiful scenery, rocks, snow and breathtaking views. At the top, the view of the mountains and Ringedalsvatnet lake is absolutely elating!
Enjoy the photos!

Very nice hike! And I can see where the name comes from. You can clearly see the tongue of the troll in the last picture. The person on it would only be a small snack for the troll.
Exactly!!.. It is a Troll's tongue. It looks quite scary froma distance, however its quite difficult to fall off the rock due to the shear size and backwards angulation. Had an awesome time there :D
Love it! I was in Norway for wa couple days in 2010 and it was beautiful. Thanks for sharing

Sounds like you an epic time. My be next time you could share a post on how from a fitness level, you prepared for it.
Thanks a lot!....It was epic indeed.
From fitness perspective it is a moderately diffiult hike...Any reasonably fit person can go for it. I have lived in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in India which are states in India located at footsteps of the Himalayan ranges...So, I have hiked here quite a bit. I didn't prepare specially however I am used to running 4-5 km a days. That is a good enough preparation I guess! :)
Wow what an amazing place! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks laura.. Stay tuned for more! :)
