Road trip - New Zeland- North Island

in #travel6 years ago

We always heard that New Zeland is a beautiful place to go on holiday, and even more if you go with a campervan to enjoy every minute of the trip by watching the Landscape!

Well, my wife and me decided that we should give a go!
We took 8 days to travel around the North Island with a Motorhome. Starting from Wellington and going all way north to Auckland.

Day 1
Starting in Wellington we went on the Mount Victoria, War Museum, Marine, city center, and a few more places...
Wellington it’s a nice city, very could on this time of year (July), not my favorite but I liked.
If you go by Motorhome and planing to go as cheap as you can, you can sleep on the marine for free, take a hot shower in the city, but the only hard thing is to find free parking around the city as it is very busy!

Starting our way to the north, we want to see the Car Museum in Paraparaumu before heading to Napier.
It’s a nice experience, even more for those who love cars.
Driving through Hastings we saw the wineries , big big wineries.
At Napier we went to wash our clothes in a laundromat, we made some shopping, we were buying at the supermarket to cook in the Motorhome to save some money.
We found a very nice spot to sleep very close to the National Aquarium!
Napier it was one of the magical cities that delighted me. Beautiful city!

Day 3
After Napier we heard about the Shine Waterfall and then we decided to go have a look.
It was amazing, for me the best part of our trip.

Heading to Tongariro to see the volcano, again it was amazing, the mountains were full of snow.
And finally we headed to Taupo to sleep and take some shower!

Day 4
We had a bit of tourist time in the city, it’s a very big area of shopping, very good for shopping. The city is great, very nice view from the Taupo Lake, that was the another city that I fall in love with!
After there we headed to Rotorua, stopping at some sightseeing on the way.
Rotorua it wasn’t my favorite city because it has a very strong smell of sulfur as it is a volcanic region too. Bit it is there where you will see the best of Maori culture and sulfur lakes.

After Rotorua we headed to Matamata to sleep for free next to the Museum and take some shower again, but this time we had to pay for the shower at the hot water resort.

Day 5
We stopped at Matamata because we wanted to go to the Hobbitons movie set!
One more great experience. For the fans of the movie it is very nice, worthy the money!

After there we headed to Tairua and as I told you, New Zeland it’s famous for the landscapes. Every coner you find a breathtaking landscape.

We found a very good spot to sleep in Tairua and for free again.

Day 6
We went to check the famous Cathedral Cove. Another must do in New Zeland.
Amazing.
There is a hit if walk, maybe 1hr return walking.

Day 7 and 8
We spent last days at Auckland. We went to Mount Victoria, botanical garden, city center, and a dew more places.
In Auckland you will find lot to do, specially for those who like to enjoy the night life, shopping, cinemas, etc.
It’s the biggest city in New Zeland, very similar to Sydney.

And that’s it.
Would recommend anyone who ask me if worth to go!
Very safe and clean country, amazing landscapes, good and safe roads to drive, they are prepared for the tourists.
For people like me, who love to travel, every single trip will worth.

Hope you enjoy, and hope this post can help you and inspire you to make your own journey!
