Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC)

This is the largest city in Vietnam by population and also known by its former name of Saigon. We thought the streets of Hanoi were busy...but we were totally wrong. The streets of Saigon were busy, it was crazy!

I really love panoramic views, so I was very lucky to visit the Bitexco financial tower skydeck, which is 262m high. You can walk around and have a 360 degree view all over Ho Chi Minh City.

The War Remnants Museum, located in the former US information service building, is really worth a visit. This in a really impresive museum that focuses on the American role in the Vietnam War. It was opened on 4 September 1975 under the name "Exhibition House for US and Puppet Crimes".

After visiting the museum, we walked around through the busy streets, exploring the highlights of the city.

It was a bit cloudy and raining and we wanted a more relaxing place for our last days. So we looked in our Lonely planet for a beach not that far away from HCMC. We ended up in a cosy coffeebar which was only open for 1 day and got some free cake. We ordered green tea and got literally green tea, which was quite disgusting.

Vung tau

This city is about 125km from Ho CHi Minh City, located on a peninsula. This is a popular destination for a weekend trip from HCMC. The people in Vung tau aren't used to a lot of foreign tourists and the people doesn't speak English very well, but you do feel welcome. And the weather was great! So we spend some time on the beach, enjoying the sun and went for a swim in the sea.

The second day of our stay, we decided to grab a taxi to the light house. After a while we were sure the taxi driver was moving in the wrong direction, and it turns out he had no idea where we wanted to go. A little while later he finally saw the light and brought us to the light house.

The lighthouse is located on top of small mountain and projects light as far as 35 sea miles, thats approximately 65km. From this place you have an amazing panoramic view over Vung Tau, the sea and the 28m high statue of Jesus Christ with outstretched arms.

The next day it was time to leave Vung tau already. I really wanted to take the ferry, because I really like boattrips. But not this one, I became really sea sick! But luckily it stopped after half an hour and I could enjoy the last part of the boattrip.

Back in HCMC we had to prepare for the early flight back home the next morning. We booked an hotel with a rooftop whirlpool with a great view over the city. Unfortunately, it was raining quite a lot so we didn't stay long in this whirlpool.

After one of the best holidays ever, it was time to go home. We made a lot of great memories!
