Quiet town in Denmark.

Hello.
From Asia we are moving back to Europe and we'll stop by the old and lovely little town of Denmark called Ribe.

In the south-west of Denmark is a small, but very cozy and beautiful city of Ribe. It was founded in the beginning of the 8th century as an open trading market, but several centuries later it became a major religious center, by the standards of that time. Now the population of Ribe is about 8 thousand people.

Inside the city there are many well-preserved buildings, of which more than 100 are protected by the Danish Heritage Protection Act. Its narrow streets with paved paths and buildings made of red brick allow you to fully feel the atmosphere of antiquity and tranquility.

Ribe Cathedral.

It is considered one of the most important historical monuments of Denmark. Inside are buried the kings Eric and Christopher. At the entrance are two sculptures - Hans Tausen, who was the first bishop of Protestants, and Hans Adolf Bourbon, who wrote the carnival anthem that was performed daily. From the tower you can see a wonderful view of the city and its immediate vicinity - the river and a lot of peat bogs.

The building of the former town hall. Next to the cathedral in Von Stockens Plads is a Gothic red brick building. In its history, it belonged to the city council, was an apartment house for Andres Bording, who published the first newspaper in Denmark, and until 2007 was also the mayor's office. At the entrance to the town hall the coat of arms of the city is depicted. A museum has been opened for tourists, allowing to examine the town hall from the inside - an old prison for debtors.

Museum of Culture of the Viking Age. It is a couple of kilometers outside the city limits. The open-air museum in the area of 10 sq. Km is a village of Vikings: the same small wooden houses, the market square, even a boat layout. Within the museum, anyone can take part in staging various crafts and military actions on swords or spears, try themselves in archery, minting coins and baking bread in an old oven.

People from all over the world come here in the summer to the medieval fair of antiques. The museum has a souvenir shop all year round. At night in Ribes, excursions are conducted along the streets of the city together with a watchman who, according to custom, sings a song every few hours. In this small town it is necessary to come even in the event that on all other settlements of the country there will be no time.
Thank you.
