Excursion to Samobor

in #travel7 years ago

Last Saturday, I went to Samobor with my friends. Samobor is a town located near Zagreb. Two of my friends with whom I been there live in Samobor so they were our tour guides. We have been planning this field trip ever since we started college and it finally happened! I can tell you that we had a great time. Samobor is a very beautiful city. Everything is so chill there unlike Zagreb, I really liked that.

Samobor info

So far you know that Samobor is a town in Croatia. It is located on the eastern slopes of the Samobor hill (a part of Žumberak mountain), at the exit of the river Gradna in the Sava river valley. Samobor has an important traffic significance. The Croatian-Slovenian border is only 5 km away from the city centre which has not changed since the 12th century. Samobor is one of the oldest and most popular excursion destinations in Croatia.

Our little adventure

When we arrived to Samobor, we went to eat in restaurant Napoli which is located outside the city centre.

I ate grilled chicken and grilled vegetables, it was really tasty. If you ever come to Samobor, I recommend you to eat at this place.

After that, we got back to city centre and we went on a tour of the old town.

The walking trail is so beautiful, here you can see how it looks:

On our way, we met this cute pony:

To get to the old town, you have to climb a little. It is short so it is not exhausting.

This is the entrance to the old town:

Samobor's old town was built between 1260 and 1264 by the supporters of Czech king Otokar II, who at that time extended its power to the Adriatic Sea. The king wanted to establish and strengthen the old frontier. Beacuse od that, he raised the fortification above Samobor. Throughout the centuries the city has changed many owners.

The view from the old town is gorgeous:

After we enjoyed the view for a while, we filled our bottles with water from the source and got back to the city.

Before we went to coffee, we walked around the city for a while. It was so peaceful and nice.

After coffee, it was time for "Samoborska kremšnita"!

"Samoborska kremšnita" is a creamy cake from Samobor which is eaten when it is warm. It is one o fthe most famous "kremšnita" in Croatia. The main ingredients are eggs, flour, puff pastry and sugar.

Our last but not least stop was "Camp Zagreb" which is located near this lake:

This was short and sweet field trip. If you ever get a chance, visit Samobor and enjoy yourself as we did.

Thank you for reading! 🙋
