Travels With Connie #72 I Think I Can
Sometimes I know exactly where I am going. In that case it’s easy, pick a route and go.
More often I have an idea where I’d like to end up, and generally speaking a direction to go.
Once in a while I just follow the front wheel and see where it takes me.
When I was just little my favorite book was "the Little Engine that Could" and his operative line was 'I think I can, I think I can'. We're just about to Logan Pass and I feel like the little Engine. One more pull to the top!
The Going to the Sun Highway is wet at the top. This waterfall here actually falls on an apron and drain system on the road. People line up on the apron to be able to drive underneath it. It's just amazing.
Here you can see the line of cars to get under the waterfall, and one just moving in to get the effect. When I came by it there were 4 young people in a convertible getting a FULL wash job! It's really something to see. It's another one of those pictures you never get.
Water just runs everywhere at the top, I guess that makes sense, we are getting on the narrower part of the peak. More snow and less space means more water to look at.
There is no obvious snow source for this spring, but I'm sure every nook and cranny in the entire range is just full of water with more running in from melting snow that we can't even see. It is just amazing how much water there really is up here.
This is a typical snow patch this time of year. Still giving up lots of water and the water actually runs under the snow.
I'm a little sad right now. The next (and last) stop on the Going to the Sun Highway is Logan Pass. This trip is almost over. But it's been so much fun. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

I to remember the book the Little Engine that Could and that saying it is one that come sot mind to me at times as well, especially when I have leg and knee issues I say that to myself and keep on going
I am also sad this trip is coming to an end I am loving the amazing scenery you are sharing with us
It was my favorite. I knew it by heart, so my parents couldn't skip a word :) About 5 or so my dad decided it was time for something a little more challenging and we started "Treasure Island". I honestly do not remember if we finished it or not. My kid brother would occasionally request 'The Little Engine That Could' so I got to hear it for a couple more years :)
Yeah I think similar happened to me, but it was a book I got early for my own kids LOL
It really is amazing the amount of water you have documented flowing up there. Those young people in the convertible I bet were having second thought a while later when the rush wore off and the wet set in on them.
Yeah, I'm guessing those kids in the convertible were second guessing their choice in just a few miles. But, you know, kids. I'd have been in favor of it when I was that age...

Wow these pictures want me to just pack up and come there. It's so funny that the water runs under the snow.
Hey ya Jean! It's really a spectacular place, and you can get right to much of it right off the highway. I have been led to believe that Glacier sports some of the best hiking trails in the nation, but you can get so close to so much right on the highway.

I loved that book as well. I also had another favourite book that I bet is now banned called little black sambo about an indian boy who makes butter from a tiger, I loved that book as it was pocket sized and I'd carry it around and I loved the illustrations of the tiger, probably also added to my own obsession of art with animals.
We had Little Black Sambo, too. In fact, in the Pacific Northwest at least, there was a chain of pancake restaurants called Sambos. We just loved eating there. We had a full sized volume, and you are right, the artwork was beautiful.
One thing, my parents never ever skimped on books. We always had books and they would keep upgrading to the next level. I got my love of reading there.
That's such a breathtaking place! I mean I'm used to see all these people talking about a specific place they want to visit so they can see something but why to search for something when you are in the middle of the mountains with such amazing landscapes?
And I do agree with you because I'm just like you. I rarely pick a destination and just let the adventure take me somewhere. And it's so damn amazing!! :)
I love to read your travels, too, because they are spontaneous. My last day out of Las Vegas is an example: I was about 30 miles from the freeway when I started out. I made 5 miles on the freeway when I bailed at the first exit and went to look at an area I'd never seen. It gave me several hours at 120F (48C) getting into Vegas late but it was so worth it. I hope to go back to that area next year or the year after to really examine it. I'm so glad I went!

Great pictures! The one with the bright blue sky (4th I think) is really nice, goes well with the green valley beneath.
There was a high moisture haze most of the day there. I think I finally got enough elevation that the moisture didn't make the sky whitish.
