A Day Well Spent At Canigao Island | Leyte, Philippines
Maajong adlaw Steemians!
I have been to many beaches in Mindanao and I had been to Boracay as well. But this beach that I am going to show you is one of the best beaches I have ever been to.
Canigao Island
Is a must go island if you are in Visayas region. It is 30 minutes away from Hilongos, Leyte – the home place of my hubby. When we had our vacation last year, we planned to go to Kalanggaman Island however, the place was already fully booked so we opted for Canigao Island. Yes, it was our second option but I did not realize that it will turn out as a very beautiful Island for me.
Why Canigao Island Is the Best?
- White Sand Islet
If you ever want to go to the beach, you would always want to go to beautiful white sand beaches but not all beaches have it. Hence, this island will give you the tiniest white sands where you can cover your whole body with.
Crystal Clear Water
Well, this Islet has the clearest water. You can technically open your eyes underwater for the whole time and you will see everything.Unpopulated and No Garbages
This beach is unpopulated. Though there will be a lot of tourists, the government make sure that the place will not be overcrowded. I have been to Boracay once and after that, I promised myself to never go back to that place ever again. Why? The place was filled with trash and it was just so overcrowded. We opted to travel to Boracay to relax but our experience was very bad due to flooding and seeing a lot of trashes that makes us wanna go back home the soonest. Whereas, in Canigao Island, the place was so clean and well maintained. The trees served as the shelter of the people and protection against the sun. The place and the water are just so cold and very inviting.Safe for Everyone
Because it is an isolated island, the government had assigned people to guard the place 24/7. Camping is allowed in the island and the thought of having guards around the island is a great piece of solidarity.
Beach Time
The Travel
From Hilongos Leyte, we travelled about 30 minutes until we reached the small port located in Matalom, Leyte. The port serves as the tourist waiting area for the boats to reach the Island. So the entrance fee is 40 pesos and the roundtrip boat fare is 60 pesos per person. You have to pay the fees including the cottage rental at the registration section where they are going to list all the people going to the island. It is a safe haven for everyone who’s going to the place. So we rode a boat which can accumulate around 20-30 people and we sailed for 15 to 20 minutes and reached the island. By the way, the Island was managed by the government and I admire how they maintained the beauty of the place. They have made small cottages where you can rent for 500-800 pesos which depends on the size of the cottage. If you do not want to spend hundreds of cottages, you can bring your own tent where they will charge you for 100 pesos only.
Hungry?
Don't worry as you can bring your cooked foods from home. You can grill meats and fresh fishes as so long as you will bring a barbecue stand so that it will not ruin the sands. There are some vendors also around the area where you can buy chips and dirty ice cream.
Time to Wash
Unlike the other islands I had been to, Canigao Island has its shower cottage for those who wanna wash after soaking in the beach. There's also changing rooms and toilets available on the island. For a desolate island like this, who would have thought that these amenities are available? A salute to the government of Matalom for this initiative.
Unfortunately, my memory card was corrupted and I have lost all the pictures we had taken on this awesome beach! The pictures that you will see below are the very few among the hundreds of pictures taken. :(
We always want to explore more of our country's pride. Philippines is blessed country no doubt to that. People around the globe tend to expend thousands of bucks to just experience and see the grandeur of our country. We are lucky to have it first hand. May this post be an inspiration to all of you to love and explore our country first. :)
