The Great Bell in Gyengju city of Korea, The Bell of King Seongdeok the Great
The Bell has had a very important meaning in Buddhism. They have fanned the bell in the Buddhist temple in order to awaken everything from darkness and to give peace and rest to everything.
The Bell was so but so similar as Buddha's words to everything that existed in the world.
At this point, the bell between Christianity and Buddhism is very different.
The most important relic on the ground of the Museum of the Nation in Gyeong Ju was a Seongdeokdaewang chant that could be translated 'The Bell of King Seongdeok the Great.
I could see the Bell in the corner of the floor. I could not know or understand why they exhibited the Bell in the corner of the Museum.
In my opinion, Bell is the core of the relics of the Shilla dynasty.
This bell was made in 771 AD in memory of King Seongdeok in the Shilla dynasty after the unification of the Korean peninsula.
This bell is the largest and the heaviest in Korea.
(The height is 3.75 m, the width of the mouth is 2.27 m, the thickness is 11-25 cm and the weight is 18.9 tons)
It was unbelievable that this bronze bell size could have lasted more than 13 centuries.
The most surprising thing is that the bell still works normally these days.
The really amazing thing is that the sound of this bell is incredibly beautiful. It has the longest sound pulse among all the Bells in the world. If you hit this bell once, the sound may continue for many several minutes due to the resonance of the bell.
Bell sound
The sound spreads like a thick fog in our chest and mind when you hear this sound.
When I was an elementary school student, I could hear the sound of playing this bell. Many scientists had studied the phenomenon of mysterious sound, but could not discover the mysterious sound.
Now we could no longer ring the bell to preserve the bell any longer.
In addition to the mysterious sound, the structure and patterns were unique and famous for their beauty.
There is a pipe of sound in the head of the bell. This sound tube is a unique structure in the Korean bell. The mysterious resonance is believed to have been made by the sound pipe.
There are many very small and very round pieces that are called the nipple of the bell in four directions.
I do not know why they named those structures the nipples.
But, in my opinion, the nipples of the bell are a metaphorical expression that the sound of the bell is the milk of life.
The one of the impressive design is an angel pattern on the Bell.
The name of the pattern is ‘Bi Cheon Sang’ which means ‘flying angel statue’
The lower part was decorated with various patterns.
The technic of carving this delicate pattern on the surface of the bell would be not easy in these days. But they made this delicate pattern1300 years ago.
I heard It is not easy to reproduce the bell even today.
Technic seemed to be not always progressive.
