I saw humpback whales at Port Stephens!!

in #travel7 years ago

G'day Human of Steemit,

It's me, Ant, the anteater, and this weekend was pretty exciting!

Pedro. one of my housemates, is Spanish, he has a strong accent, a mean moustache and makes a very tasty sangria. An alright human. It was his birthday last week so a few of us went on a surprise trip to Port Stephens this weekend and a few of us had never been there before so it felt like our birthdays too (except that Carlos, the birthday boy, didn't pay for pretty much anything...).

It was amazing. To anyone who visits Oz (or lives here and has never been there). Port Stephens is awesome, and the fact that it is winter right now is pretty sweet because it was quiet and relaxed. I hear it gets pretty crowded in summer.

I have some pretty epic pictures to share with you, and what better picture to start with than my favourite moment of the trip. I saw whales for the very first time!

Anteaters live mostly in forests, savannas, grasslands... you know... bushy inland environments. I saw the beach for the first time when I moved to Sydney, so, for me to see a humpback whale for the first time was mind blowing. I'm definitely sending this picture to my grandma back in South America.

That's how the trip pretty much started, we then spent some time at the beach. Juan, the birthday spaniard, and a few others went surfing and all. I didn't though. I consider myself an excellent swimmer and I am not scared of these creatures you humans call, sharks, jellyfish, octopus... No, I'm definitely not scared. I just stayed because I someone had to keep an eye on our belongings.

We then hit a local brewery in Nelson Bay called Hope Brewhouse where the typical human celebration began. There are no pictures of that since it got way out of hand very quickly, good thing anteaters have a strong tolerance and got everyone back in bed at the end of the night. Pablo, el birthday chico, was a mess.

Next morning involved a heavy breakfast for everyone to start functioning again. I woke up early and found a tasty ant nest near our cabin to stuff myself before what was to come. We went on a trekking mission and walked along the coast for quite a while until we reached Tomaree Head. Since it was quite steep, Jose, my spanish amigo, offered me a ride since it was quite steep (to be honest, I demanded it since I had to clean his mess the night before...).

At the top, the views are outstanding:

I'm not going to lie, at that height, humans looked like ants and for the very first time I wondered what you may taste like...

It's been pretty hard getting back to work on Monday. But an anteater's got to make a living, right?

Did you humans have a good weekend yourselves?

Have an antcellent start to the week!
Ant, the anteater.

This Anteater is traveling the world more than most humans!

It's not easy for an anteater living in Sydney, but I hope to travel as much as I can in my short life - we only live around 16 years you know...
