I hate where I live.

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Dear reader,

I live in a small town. I live in a shit town.

'You know you're from a small town when you have to reference a larger destination in order to explain it to others.'

^^That may work for y'all, but that still doesn't cut it for me.

I've tried referencing a tourist destination close to me; I've tried referencing my county as a whole. You name it, I've tried it. I always get the same response: a clueless, moderately confused look. I've honestly just resigned myself to explaining what part of the state I'm from.

I live in a town with a population of 7,210 (last I checked). And, on top of that, I live outside city limits. Three miles outside city limits. I live in the boondocks outside a small, shitty town. And all I have to show for it is friends that laugh at me when they visit, "Wow, you sure live in the boonies." YEAH, I KNOW, SHUT UP. But, really, it's not like they'd visit me because the closest is a 20 minute drive. Ya girl has to drive elsewhere to socialize because nothing happens in my podunk little town.

When I say this is where I'm from, I mean I have lived here from 2000 to 2014. I grew up here. I managed to escape for a few years, under the guise of going to college. Unfortunately, I'm back and as I said in my last post, I'm here until August. How will I survive.

Can you hear it? Stayin' Alive is playing in the background. It's my theme song for the next month and a half.

I live in a small town. I live in a shit town. Please send help, I hate it here. Send me memes about the city or comment pictures to give me life.

Sincerely,

Jay

I feel you on this one. I live in a podunk desert town. The only plus is that you can almost go shooting wherever you want. Lol

I relate to all of the deadness inside and the change came when I moved away from all the things and people who dragged me down. In a new place with new people of my chose I had a struggle attracting the same old same old. For me it was a struggle but my life and friends are totally of my liking. I love my solitude and time out. All the work to improve > not repeating the old friends and life was worth the work. Looking forward to your wild ride to JOY and freedom. NEVER QUIT. So glad you made it to steemit. We are the gift economy revolution.
It looks like someone else beat me to your post to tell you the good news.

Thanks! I experienced that same change when I went to college, what an amazing experience it was. Now I just have to wait so I can do it somewhere else and make it permanent.

I understand. I'm from, and am back sorta stuckish in a town of 9,000. I've spent years away, but I find myself back again, feeling quite alone.

But I'm using the time to become good friends with myself, which has made it feel worth it. I hope that even though the time is challenging, that you can find a perspective that makes it feel healing and productive.

In the meantime, here's a picture of a graffitied pay phone:

Or a street tree with a bulb on it:

Or what passes for a yard in Chicago:

Perhaps these paintings by wayward youths will help:

When your bumper is already sticky enough:

That's all I got. Not really, I've got a lot more, but I won't throw them at you unless you're into it. Hang in there.

Sincerely,
Lucas

I'm into it! Please share more :) Thank you for leveling with me!

Everywhere is what's you make of it. You see people partying in the cities and think that's what it's all about but once you do it all you realize the country is where it's at. I think you just need good people to connect with, it's really all about the people but more than that it's about you and where your mind is at. Go explore, it's fun.

In all honesty, the people are what's really so shitty about where I live. It's a very, very pretty area. No complaints there. The people are difficult to communicate with, not to mention connect with. Hobbies, beliefs, mood are all extremely different.

I kinda like the idea of living in a small town. Do some photos of this town and share them with us some time please :)

I certainly can do that. It never really occurred to me that anyone would want to see my town haha!

It would be interesting to pretty much anyone who doesn't live in your town me thinks.

Well then I guess I will put pictures up!

Ya really, feel with you....if your young and like action....then such tiny town is very boring.....if getting older....you will enjoy silence and not get bother to much. However....for sure there is some nature around.....if your to much bored, then make just some suvival training....or just hermit the Computer, like i doing :)

I enjoy being a hermit too!

I was raised in a small town. I liked it.

You're probably more in tune with nature than I am.

Go for a walk everyday and start talking to strangers. IT'S FUN!
