Capturing Travel Photos While Still Living in the Moment

in #travel7 years ago

We travel for a lot of different reasons. Among these difference, lies a common habit that we all do. Taking photos of places we go. A debate always comes into mind: Are you capturing the moment or living with it?

We live in an era where capturing photos is more important than actually enjoying and living in the moment itself. I'd like to believe that both of these can co-exist and still possible to do both. Finding the balance between wanting to document our travel and living in the moment is the key. Here, I provided some tips and practices on how you can achieve this.

Snap the shot, then take down your camera

Never get too hung on the need to take the perfect photo. By always pointing our camera, we almost waste most of our time missing what we could potentially see with our naked eye. This is where the balance between photography and living in the moment should take place.

One tip that I am using is snapping a few photos upon arriving at the place then putting my camera back in my bag and enjoy the scenery for the rest of the time. Sit back, enjoy, listen and observe to everything around you.

Skip the Social Media Post for Later

Social Media can be a powerful tool for preparing for your travel. But it can be a hindrance when use during the actual trip. Mobile photos go hand in hand with social media but your life will still go on even without posting your photos instantly. You will get them even for later. So enjoy the moment right now.

Maintaining a day-off for your camera

If your traveling to a place for a couple of days, make it a habit to include a day where you won't take your camera out of your bag. Personally, I keep a 2:1 day ratio when going out. For every 3 days that I travel, I would make sure that I would skip shooting for a day in that time span. This would be the perfect time to not just enjoy the place but also get to know more about the people in there. Talk to them and listen to their culture, they have so much to share.

Know your Actual Self-Worth

The amount of likes and shares that you get upon posting your pictures doesn't define you and your self-worth.

There you go folks. Following these practices could give you a different look on your travels. Remember to just go with the flow and see where the moment will take you.

Cheers to more travels!

very beautiful photos great dear friend

Thank so much! I appreciate it.

your welcome my best friend

Love to see your collection, Adventure is worthwhile, for my part, I travel not to go anywhere but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move and journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.

Great advice, I think most of the time we have to remind ourselves to enjoy being somewhere or doing something, without having the need to document every second of it, which as you pointed out, could leave us with all the photos and video and non of the experience.

There was a joke I heard a while back:

Guy gets back from his holiday abroad, and his friends and family asked him how the holiday was, and he replied: "I don't know, I haven't looked at my photo's yet." lol :-)

Stay Blessed, and present in all your adventures. :-) Happy steeming, @steemians.

Exactly. Hoping more people would realize this. Balance is the key. Thank you so much!

Nice sentiment. I agree with harmonizing the balance. And mostly just not overthinking things too much. Being present doesn't have to mean not capturing an experience to share later on, or look back and reflect on.

Yes definitely. Both can be done. You just have to find the combination.

agree with your sentiments, so many people are more concerned with impressing people at home rather than enjoying the moment in real time.

Yes. This is a reminder to take pictures but never let your vacation run around it. Enjoy the moment too!
