Moab Lake - A hidden treasure in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
While touring around the Jasper Area we decided to go a bit off the beaten track and visit Moab Lake. Moab Lake is located along Highway 93A in Jasper National Park.
Highway 93A is a lot less busy than the main road and actually there are a few pretty spots to stop at. There is a sign that indicated that the road was a bit rougher but in reality it was actually pretty good.
There is a sign to indicate the route down to the lake:
The walk into Moab Lake itself is actually quite short BUT I would recommend that you continue along the trails a bit further as the views are well worth it. We found that the view from the place where you initially get to the lake is pretty but not really very spectacular.
We saw a little boat launch that some people seem to use and a little further down the trail we saw a beaver dam. The view was ok but nothing to write home about.
We decided to follow the trail the opposite direction for a while and discovered a much more spectacular view - well worth the extra exploring.
In my opinion this view was worth the extra hike and I think that it is often overlooked by some hikers who think that the first lake view point is as good as it gets.
