A new kind of boatsteemCreated with Sketch.

I am an engineer and geek by heart. Thats all there is to me! I want to share some of my untraditional ideas with you guys on Steemit. I have a friend who is also an entrepreneaur. He always says that "an idea is worth nothing unless you do something about it". Well I guess I will share it here, and let you guys decide wether its a good or bad idea.

I live along the coast, and going by boat has always been a natural way of transporting me around. However going by boat is either slow as a snail, or painfully expensive when it comes to gas-cost. reducing this cost, and still having the ability to "go as fast as the wind" will be a gamechanger for transport by sea. The reasons why it is so expensive to go fast in the sea is both that you have to move a lot of heavy water, inducing waves and such. Also the propeller is pushing liquid water backwards to generate thrust. compared to a car which pushes on solid ground it is just like going in dry sand, very heavy!

My proposal to solve this is to build a tracked veichle on sea !! This way I believe the drag from the water will be greatly reduced, sine there will be no relative movement between the tracks and the water. Also the tracks will push on much more water than a small propeller does, which in turn reduces the "dry sand" effect. A nice side effect of this is that the boat can be amfibious. As all ideas which is imagineable it jst to google, and you will find somebody already started testing:

Some changes to this veichle would make it much more seaworthy!

So what do people on Steemit think? is this idea worth something?

Is this something like an old paddle steamer? I think it was found that a propeller is actually more efficient.

In some way, yes. The differences is that I want to use belted tracks, with a large area, and also high speed. This way the boat could be lifted out of the water by "dynamic lift". There are also several videos of people driving on sea with snowmobiles:

I must admit though, that I have not done the math, or tested anything, so I dont know if this would have the potential to be more fuel efficient transport by sea.
