I think ultimately the idea is that we wanted these votes to be split. That way, a whale outside the Splinterlands community would not have that much influence. Trusted members inside the community would be the whales and would hopefully result in better quality forums on specific topics. I happen to be a whale in both here, so for me it doesn't make too much difference in this one case.

Good point. The outside influence would be heavily diminished with split votes. On the other hand, the forum could just show the SPT upvotes (which it does right now already) and ignore all Steem upvotes, so it would be irrelavant whether a whale up- or downvotes the post, as long as the whale has no SPT staked. Hence, I am not sure how much of a factor this actually is.

Getting both Steem and SPT is awesome, no doubt. I just wonder if the forum could profit from allowing SPT upvotes only, encouring more people to use the function. I guess this would have to come with another incentive to earn SPT in the first place. Some sort of sink that is beneficial for the users. Splinterland cards, potions and skins sound like fun. Maybe something that can only be obtained with SPT and no other way.

In the end, we all want to get more and better Splinterlands content and make some sort of profit with our interaction and stake. The classic idea of SMTs and now SCOTs. The right incentive would help to achieve that and make the forum flower with tons of content creators. People would also be incentivized to trade, sell and delegate via the forum as well, since they can earn SPT with that. And others would be able to easier find the cool offers from other people, which otherwise would only be available when they manually hunt through the market.
