Gymnasium on board the Titanic, 1912
One of the innovations of the Titanic was the gym. He reflected the tendencies of the entertainment of the high world of that time. It was rowing, horse racing, bike sled, boxing.
The gym was located on the starboard side of the ship on the boat deck, next to the second pipe. It was a room 14 m long and 5.5 m wide.
The ceiling and walls of the hall were painted white, and natural sunlight penetrated through the seven arched windows.
Ladies and gentlemen for one shilling could use the gym from 10.00 am until 6.00 pm. The time from 1 pm to 3 pm was reserved for classes with children.
Passengers in addition to the usual dumbbells, expanders and pears for boxing, was offered a novelty - an electric simulator. Since, not everyone knew how to handle wonders, then, in this case, the sports instructor Thomas McCowley worked in the hall.
The gym of the Titanic Hall, like everything else, was executed at the most modern level and set a bar unattainable for other airliners.
Even having perished, Titanic has considerably advanced all branch of sea cruises. One can only guess how much he could influence the cruise industry, if everything went well.
